|
|
As I start to get deeper into my 54 project, I have uncovered a green color paint on heater channels and front firewall. Also have uncovered some green on bottoms of fenders and in the rear luggage/firewall sections. This leads me to believe my April of 54 Oval might possibly be Iceland Green from factory. I have searched the gallery/forums and have found very few pics of L213. Can someone post some pics for me. I'm thinking of spraying this color when that time comes around. I will be using Glasurit paint trying to keep color as close to original. I also discovered this color combo to use green cloth 51. I have not seen green cloth so I have no clue how this combo would look.......HELP PLEASE..... |

Hopefully someone will get you a picture of a car you can use.
Too bad VW didn't put color chips in their sales books and brochures in the early days.
Often when I come across scans of pages of paint color chips online, I'll save them to my computer for future reference. Plus I've got a couple of my own in there. Looking at them though I only found two that had that color included, computer scans are only as good as whoever scanned them and your monitor, but here's what those two chips look like:

My car was originally Iceland Green (great color btw). The outside got resprayed somehwat poorly, but the interior is still original. I can snap some shots tomorrow if you'd like. Those scans above look very close, atleast on my monitor anyway. _________________ I love my 55 Oval. |

weird mine had red letherette as well...although when searching colour options i don't think it was one.
least i'm not alone.
i went with a tan/mocha interior in mine (early ford material actually)
most people think it looks like a stock vw interior (lenny copp noticed though _________________ Cruiser pedals for sale (see my ad's)

Trying to judge colours on a moniter is a waste of time. Every moniter will produce a different look. Just scroll up and down quickly between Russ' car and the AZ car. Doesn't the AZ car look like it has more brown in it? In reality, it probably doesn't. _________________

Yep, plus the different cameras produce different results. Too many factors to judge a color on, but I like that color on either car or the paint chip samples! _________________ '57 Beetle |

Its a bigger difference than seen in the above photos. I mean.. those two cars above are pretty consistant.
This car's owner claims it to be Iceland Green:
Its pretty dark in that picture, compared to the 2 above that are in sunlight.. but that color is completely different looking. I'm hoping that Iceland green looks like the 2 cars above in real life and nothing like that light green that I just posted.
But you are right.. I need a color wheel.. and color samples. _________________ Read My Beetle Restoration Blog!

In this case you are dealing with an ignorant owner. Lighting, camera variances, moniters would also affect the dark green background of the tag. Since it hasn't been affected very much, the true colour of that car is some other custom colour.
I may be wrong, but I don't think Iceland green was original on late ovals either. _________________

Bruce is right early ovals only had it.
also no amount of monitor or lighting will produce that colour from a real iceland green car.bottom line that car is NOT iceland green _________________ Cruiser pedals for sale (see my ad's)

Iceland Green and Bamboo and several others in the light green family- stopping at Agave which is quite dark, are notorious for looking very different in different lighting. Its one of the appeals of the color. That light green one above looks a little too far out though.
An example of what I am talking about: look at the under bonnet shot above. The inside dash section looks very different from the rest of the car because it is not being exposed to as much light. _________________ Roads Scholar
