When I bought my 67 a few years back, it came with the beauty rings on the wheels. Every 67 I see doesn't have those. Did it come with the rings form the factory or was that likely an add on later on? Can someone post a pic of how it should really look. Thanks

I think they were an authorized dealer accessory. Stock was white outer, black inner. Not sure of the exact tints on those colors, though. The white seemed to have a slightly blue-green tint to it, but you only noticed it if you held up a pure white sample next to it.

yea, the black and white is what i've seen so far. Right now, somebody painted them silver, and the paint is chipping, and kinda looks crappy, so im gonna sand them down and do it right. what type of paint do you guys recommend I use?

How much time and money? Some powder coat. I just carefully masked and used Rustoleum. Prep is everything (something yout PO didn't do if it is peeling or chipping).

ooh, nice tire/rim!

By the way, Convertibles (and Ghias) did come with trim rings as standard issue. (and from what I understand, they didn't bother to two-tone the wheels on those models as a result)

From the Archives, here is a page from a 1966 brochure that shows the difference between them:

In case anyone was curious....

Inner: Color is Grey-Black and I've seen it referenced as L43 and LD43
Outer: Grey-Black on Convertible, L680 Cumulus White for blue Sedans, L282 Lotus White all other Sedans

The proper "beauty rings" for a '67 Type 1 have 10 slots. There are rings for other years and models that have 11 slots.

The wheels on my Lotus White '67 are not two tone. They are Lotus white only. The wheels on my former Zenith blue '67 looked like the one in Everett's photo with two tone grey-black/cumulus

Here's my white car showing the spare. I replaced the tire when I had a new set put on the car. If you look closely, you'll notice that I had the wrong type of beauty rings on it Embarassed . I finally found an NOS set of 10-slots. They do a nice job of hiding my wheels, which are original and in dire need of refinishing Wink

I can't say unequivocally that they were not two-tone originally, since the car has been resprayed once. It was an Earl Scheib el-cheapo special many eons ago. There is paint peeling at many of the corners and edges, revealing the original paint underneath. I have looked very closely at the wheels, but they appear not to have been repainted. I have also tried to scrape the inner rim looking for black paint, but it's Lotus White through and through. It's odd that I see no evidence of a repaint on the wheels, yet all the photos I see are two-tone. I put it out there to see if anyone else has all Lotus White wheels that appear original. It doesnt really matter to me anyway, since I like my beauty rings, which cover the whole wheel anyway Smile .

My Zenith Blue, Jan. '67 came with four "updated" 6/68 wheels in perfect factory Black and the spare in the trunk was a Lotus White / Black two tone. Was it always Cumulus White / Black for "blue cars" or are there other Zenith Blue cars out there with what they believe to be original Lotus White / Black wheels? I'd hate to think I have to re-do my wheels because the spare isn't original either!

Thanks.

My 34,000 original mile Zenith Blue car still had the original tires on the front and the spare. It was Cumulus, not Lotus.

I was at the St. Pete house over the weekend and looked at the wheels more closely. They were apparently all painted when the PO had the car painted. I suppose it would have cost him more to have them painted the proper two-tone colors, so he just had them sprayed one color. This makes sense, since he was the most frugal guy in the world. He kept a running list of things he had done to the car, which includes an entry for "one (only one) used windshield wiper blade" Shocked

Would both the colors be a semi gloss/satin or would the Lotus White match the gloss of the body paint?

The chart I have shows the inner gray/black being "LD" for the dulling agent in the paint, but the outers jus the normal L codes so that would mean normal gloss for those.
