Well i've had a few wanted ad on forums etc and still have not had much luck.
I'm wanting to remove the ribbed bumpers from my early 49 and fit what I believe to be the correct bumpers and overiders to the car again.

I now have some correct overiders but yet still to find the smooth blade bumpers.
No one seems to be making them, only ribbed types.

So I'm thinking I might have a go at cutting down some oval beetle blades?

So I guess I need to know really what the shape looks like and some measurements.

Does anyone have some details to share?

I'm fairly certain somebody was reproing them. I can't remember who though.

The guy who made the "Riechpost" KDF-ish concept made some pretty cool smooth blades and bananas by cutting down a later blade and (I think) some US model uprights.

If you decide to make your own bumpers it's alot more work than just cutting down oval bumpers.
You would have to weld ends on as the bumpers are longer .
You would also (this is the hardest part) cut them down to size and shape the side profile curves.

I've not had much luck and nothing is in English which makes it harder.

Can anyone find an email address?

Krebrenik dont have any official E-mail address. I sent him a FAX two months ago regarding the same bumpers but no reply yet... Crying or Very sad

I dont speak German either otherwise I would have called him directly.

And if you have a good set of ribbed bumpers you can use them as templates to get the correct shape of the early bumpers. The rear bumpers have the exact same bend and width. The front bumpers are basically shaped the same too but bends some more at the outer ends.

yeah, he´s a little, let´s say, different. Somebody told me he only accepts parts ordering, by letters. I believe there´s an example on his website how to fill out the "letter". It´s says "Anfrage- Bestellformular" Also there´s a fax number.
I wouldn´t fabricate the bumpers by myself, you have a nice split and it deserves some fine bumpers.
He´s probably on vacation right now and the europeans have 3 or 4 weeks of that ! Wink
good luck !

BUGBOY1976 I was lucky to find a set of banana bumpers a while back and I think the same guy still has some or can get a pair but I don`t know what the price will be. Let me check on it and get back to you.

I`d like to see your car with the bumpers it deserves.

His previous web site was far superior. The one he has now is horrible.
Most of it is completely unreadable as far as I am concerned. I guess Germans might be able to figure out what those characters are though.

I have a chromed set of Krebernik banana repros. The shape is very close to the originals but I am not sure if he still makes them. He is not the youngest anymore and works now less than in the past.
I made some pics to compare the shape to the later grooved style wich is differend in many ways.
They became a bit dusty but you can see the difference I think.

I was told recently(at terryville show) that there were 3 diffrent styles of banana bumpers one early and 2 types later. The ones I have (made from templets from a real pair) are more tapered and have a more gently bend on the ends. Im not sure if the later type were both made at the same time or if one is later than the other?

Well, I still have had no luck.
Looks like I'll try cutting and welding some 50's oval bumpers.
Problem still is knowing what the true shape should be.

I was hoping someone would have made repro still or even fibre glass?

Chris Morley in SoCal had some quite good ones made many years ago. I am quite certain that he has some left somewhere. Some of the members in SoCal surely can help you get in touch. Wait for some proper ones to show up - they are out there.

Chris' bumpers were made in Czech Republik by a class students of a technical school. The teacher himsels owns an old Kdf-beetle. If you never have seen original bumpers, they looks nice - but if you compare them with the original drawings or orininal parts, every detail looks different. Even the first Krebernik-bumpers were not perfect but after the find of a set NOS-Parts as a master-example, the bupers are 99.9% perfect.

Last year, Dieter Krebernik decidet to stop his reproductions because he was tired about all these talkers and non-paid orders. Last year, he had a couple of bumpers, if you want some, you have to be hurry.

Mr Kreibernik told me he is concentrating on his type 166 parts now, and no longer making KdF beetle era parts. He may have extras he made a while ago. Its worth asking.
