Can it be done? A whole bus made from Gerson~Klassic Fab panels?
We have seen people bring bus from the brink of or declared unfixable. What about a bus that is completely made from Gerson panels. What if you could order a bus shell? What ever bus you wanted What would you order? |

It looks like it's only a matter of time. If I remember correctly, someone posted that Gerson wanted to be reproducing such a wide variety of panels in 2009, that you would be able to build a Barndoor from the ground up. Oh yeah, I would rock a repop Barndoor 15 all day long...... |

So is this truck 100% new?
Or is it a restored (with green panels) truck that had a
coat of green paint? _________________ www.volksfahrer.nl

The truck is NOT 100% new. It started it's life as what it is a 54 barndoor singlecab. There are 10 pcs. that are off the original truck. Brian, The frames in the corner have gone throught hell and back. The only thing that they are good for or the rear tortion houses and vin numbers. Beleave me. Original is always the best. That is true with any VW part. German is always the best. Sometimes you haven't got a choose! |

Humm.. If I could have any bus I want.. hummm I am not a big fan anymore of making busses that never exsisted... But I have seen a picture of a BD Binz.. The black one.. I think that is what I would want. For some reason I really like Binz trucks... And to have a BD one.. that would be THE SHIT!!! I am sure someone knows what pic I am talking about.. I have thought about offering to trade my single for one.. but just can't pull the trigger on that one.. I love my truck!
And talking about busses being 100% new and have a few parts or some percentage.. I am sure there are many opinions on this.. Some of my guys pick on my single and say it's just like my coffee, 60% columbian! I just laugh.. I am sure bubba's was worse than mine.. but I have plenty of columbian metal on it.. and I say, THANK YOU Gerson! Without Gerson, alot of the BD's would have no chance! As long as they are getting put back together to be as close as we can make them.. I say hell yeah! Making busses usable again.. thats what it's all about to me! Build em and DRIVE the hell out of em! _________________ "Building the shit out of vw's" Lifer. |

Agreed 110%.
Im disagree with people who bag on busses that dont have much original metal left.
Of course if you have a bus with all solid orig metal, sweet, it should be coveted and saved to the best of your ability.
But an entire different set of rules need be applied to a bus that is in very bad shape.
It needs to have good solid metal put back in place, and what better stuff than gersons, to get it back to correct original condition. the metal is correct curve, and gauge, whats the difference bewteen that and NOS metal? i say nothing.
SO once the bus is done correctly, and then touched up, years down the road, who will even know the panels were replaced..provided you do the job correctly.
Or who cares about that school of thought. would you rather see said bus chopped up, or put back on its wheels for others to enjoy....
Im all for fixing them. i dont care how bad they are. If you can build one from scratch, then a rusty one can be patched.
dave
oh yeah, and my choices would be, either an early 15 window, 52/3 or a walkthrough standard, also 52/3. both would be in brown beige/light beige.

Will be strange if in 5 years time I am at shows and people start asking "nice barndoor, is it a real one?"
To me personally my interest in having a vintage vehicle is in the fact its a survivor against the odds, I think the repros will be a great base for the custom projects, so the OG buses dont have to be messed with to make someones 80's dream.
How are the repro buses looking in regards to a painter laying a flat coat of paint on them without throwing the towel in during prep? _________________ (06:31:07) RoachGhia: "i drink dick way too fast" |

is it going to stay funky green???
for me it'd be an early(ish) double sliding door panel with rag and the security crew cab with no rear windows and walkthru(i think, cant find pic now but recently posted)
the only prob i can see with new shells is that the already hard to find parts will be spread evermore thinly amongst those who need them most to complete their builds.
pics look amazing by the way, congrats _________________ Climbing trees, rocks and all else in my path then onto my roofrack for a kip... |

I agree if you have the loot to buy a repop and then hack it up, but since originals can still be found for a song, a dance & $600, I'll just customize my original.
