Wiring

Just got a 74 Thing runner. I came across 3 wires that are hanging loose in the battery area. They exit from the main harness just before entering the engine compartment. They are solid brown, brown with white or grey circles running around the wire about every 1/4 of an inch, and finally a yellow wire with red strip in it. I have checked the search area and see that they connect to battery, brown being a ground. What are they used for??

That kind of sounds like the old VW diagnosis port.
