Okay, in the past couple of years you guys have been a great help with my son's 71 Super. Now, his "learning" to drive has resulted in some body work necessity.
I need all four fenders and the front hood. What I'm curious about is what years can I use to replace these?
If need be, does anyone have a favorite place for new body parts?
Thanks!

IIRC 71 & 72 supers are on their own for front end parts due to the strut front end and flat windshield. _________________ 69 Beetle

How was he learning to drive that he took out four fenders and a hood?
That being said, I'm rather fond of scavenging them out of Junkyards off of beetles that would other wise make good a good modern art piece. I don't have a Super though, might be harder to find. _________________ '72 Std Beetle - 1641 CC

the front fenders on all supers are interchangable... only difference is the bumper holes
the hoods are not 71/72 are those years only _________________ Donate and help me get another aircooled dub to share with you guys www.paypal.me/WhosCare |

Yeah, hit up some junk/salvage yards. When an SUV ran me off the road and hit my fender pretty hard (then the bastard sped off, I had to get hit, I had a motorcycle right behind me, and I couldnt go off the road right there) AANNNYYYwayyyyyss...... I pulled a fender from the junk yard myself that was pretty solid, and got it for $25. Although it had been there a while, and I had to hack saw through the bumper because it was rusted to (what was left of) the frame. Amazingly, fenders retain the ability to stay solid, even though an entire car can be rusted out. |

maybe you should wait until he's fully "learned" to drive before replacing parts.... _________________ 1970 VW Beetle 1776cc MOFOCO w/hydraulic lifters, 042 heads and dual dellorto's

So, to recap, for your front fenders, you'll need 71-73 fenders to bolt on with no modification. For your rears you can use any from 68 to 72 but you'll need to match the mounting holes for your turn signals [not a big deal]. And as stated before, 71/72 hood's are unique, not remanufactured, so you'll need to look for something used.
As for reproduction fenders, Maxicar out of Italy makes the best, but you may still need to massage them a bit to be perfect. Buy in pairs [both front or both rear] to make sure they match. Buying used doesn't always mean that they are original German fenders folks have been crunching fenders as long as they have been on cars and the aftermarket folks have been around for a long time.
