I read about Google adding the Life photos, but didn't even ponder on looking up Volkswagen... good job!
Looks like we'll eventually be able to buy prints too _________________ Cheers,

Amazing!! Thanks so much for these pics. I saved almost every one for my collection. There are some that I've never seen before.
The ones in the paint booth are awesome.

Proof positive how verts were delivered to Karmann... no roof, or doors, plenty of bracing, and a solid "W" decklid with no vents!

How do we know its Karmann, and if so, why would there be sedans on their "production line"? _________________ John Henry

So how many of you would say that most of these photos are new never been see before pics ?
The reason I asked is, My brother a UPS driver, was dueing a normal delivery to an auction house, while droppping off the packages for this company he over heared these 2 workers taliking about hitler and vws.
It s turns out the auction house was hired to perform a local estate sale/auction from an old german gentelman who past away.
Turns out the found an old german camera and many cases of negatives of Hitler during the war and also many pics of Hitler with volkswagens and photos of the VW factory.
My brother spoked to the gentlemen who ran the auction house and mentioned that he wanted $1000 for the camera and all the negatives (near a 1000) I called the following day after hearing the news from my brother and the price skyrocketed to $850,000 the owner of the auction house told me that he was trying to work a deal with time life magazine since these negatives were definetley pictures that had never been seen before to the public and could have only been tooken from some one that was either very close to hitler or one of his very own personal guards of some sort I do not know if these are the same pics that were linked above but this find was about 8 months ago ! _________________ **WANTED** ONE 4 1/2 EARLY FUCH |

John what I'm saying is that the pic is actually of the "VW" production line. I don't see why VW would have a roofless car, next in line, to a sedan, to do same step in the assy process. It makes no sense to do a process on a roofless car, then go weld a roof on , make it a sedan, and come back to do the same process again. I think this is the rust proofing dept, maybe? The sedans will keep going on to the paint area and the roofless ones are to be delivered to Karmann?
John a REAL GOOD electrical engineer should be able to build a time machine and settle this once and for all! _________________ 1957 Karmann Kabriolet "Franky"

Those are not at Karmann, that is not what he is saying, they are the partial shells destined for the karmann plant as I pointed out in the factory picture in the cool vintage photos thread. As someone else pointed out they also could be destined to hebmuller or papler for the police cabriolets.
Here is the picture from the other thread.

Notice the upper cab only firewall section.
It was applied that the VW factory.
Note that the dash panel is in place but the cowl from the dash to the hood is not. And also there are no inner panels to the rear quarter panels.

I have been in the hobby for 28 years now, and LOVE to look at old period photos like these. I can truly say that I have never seen many of these. _________________ John Henry
