Hi Mircea,
Looking good. That looks like the same transmission & RGB setup I went with. My tires are 29.5 inches in diameter and I can cruise happily along at about 50 mph (80 kph). Yes, it will be slow, but the torque will be inversely proportional.
Make sure you torque the rear axles at about 250 ft-lb, and re-check after the first 100 or 200 km. (Mine loosened...) If not fully torqued, the reduction boxes WILL leak.
Keep up the excellent work and keep the photos coming!

Hi Ken
I think there are not...In yours early pictures, I sow, and you said that you buy a bus(t1) rear transmission and reduction boxes.
In my case, after some measurements I had seen that the distances between the blades and the places where i could weld the triangles that keep the blades is not the same.
the difference are 1.5 cm in each side. I think is not so wrong. The plates do that are set to do! I think, that swing axels I have are from a 181.
I don't know for shure.
Here is the pic to see what I 'm saying !
Sorry I don't understand why the reduction boxes WILL leak?
P.S. O k finally I understood...I put two more pictures to see what is in my yard

Hello Mircea!
Perhaps I was wrong calling my transmission a T1? My transmission was from a Beetle, and my reduction gear boxes (RGB) and axles were from a 1960 bus.
I had the same issue with the width. I seperated my axle tubes from the RGB housing and cut the housing approximately 1 inch (25 mm). It wasn't very easy - You need to drive out the retaining pin and then press the tube out. Then make your cut, and press the tube back in (perfectly aligned) and drive the retaining pin back in. It takes a lot of pressure to press the axle tube out!
Here are some photos to help "see" what I'm talking about.
My suggestion for you would be to remove the torsion springs and see how well the swingarm arcs. If you feel OK about it, it would probably be OK.

...my mistake Ken,
again my English language...gear box and RGB and swing axels I call transmission and here an early bus we call t1.
For sure you are more determinate then me...I m a lazy one.
I thought myself to this solution but iiiiih...
Now I see that you give more strength and are better then mine.

ok, so that eveyone reading this thread knows... Mircea is indeed a lazy man... needs a slave to cut up and clean the fish, get the grill ready, cook the steaks, and then after a god healthy meal and some cold beers he goes to sleep. and does this almost every day. i am forced to work alone, or if possible to sleep in one of the parked beetles until he wakes up. and imagine yourself sleeping in a ragtop car and hear a 10kg cat playing on the canvas.. he has 4 cats and all are fat and lazy just like he is.
as i am typing this his status is "nani" .. that means "sleep" .
he posts here some pictures that everyone thinks he's doing stuff... but don't let this man deceive you... _________________ 1960 1200 model 117 deluxe ragtop

Those wheels look very good Mircea. Keep up the good work - any updates? I know it's winter, but what are your plans/ schedule ?
eurodub: Too funny! I assume you know Mircea well...
Hebster, I only cut the casting on the RGB housing, so the axle and axle tube are unchanged in length. I used the bus axles and tubes...

he ate too much on the New Years Eve night, and now is recovering... you know that too much steaks and booze can slow a man down... _________________ 1960 1200 model 117 deluxe ragtop

Piss that 10kg cat off, then throw it in his bed. That should at least make him move-around a little

the cat is useless.. because it's hard to awake the monster in it.. believe me, i tried hard and no luck
But don't worry, seriously Mircea is there at 7.30-8.00 each morning drinking the coffee, fixing things.
At this moment he's probably thinking of a funny reply in this thread... maybe with a picture or two... _________________ 1960 1200 model 117 deluxe ragtop
