We went to a VW show today in Kissimmee Florida that benefited Toys For Tots. They had 160 cars and most of them were very nice looking. One car stood out to me though. I'm not calling this a Rat Rod or Volks Rod or whatever, I'm calling it a VW rod. No it wasn't perfect, but it didn't have gaping rust holes either. What caught my eye about this car is the very creative (and safe) fab work that the builder utilized. Take a look at some of the details.

Overall shot of the car. Nice chop top proportions.

Interior shot. He used brass knuckles welded to flat plate for the door pulls. Also notice the seats with sprockets welded on top.

Close-up of the seat frames. I love the canvas seating and exposed frame. Very industrial looking.

Chain steering wheel, but not what you're thinking. Check out his cup holders. Two VW cylinders welded to the tunnel.

No its not just some show "queen". Definitely an eye catching motor.

These last two show the hood. I like the chain VW emblem

If you're going to comment about hood rides, how much you hate rat rods or volks rods, or mention its from FloriDUH, don't. If its not your taste, think to yourself "its not my taste" and click on another thread. I think he did a very good job making a car that's not a bucket of shit, not an over done, never driven rod, and has lots of innovative details.

Looks like Old Town on 192. I was born in Kissimmee and moved last year to Charlotte. My first "show" when I was 16 in my 70 Bug was out there. I like the steering wheel. Ill give the guy a hand for creativity. He has an imagination thats for sure. Some nice VW's turn up out there from time to time for the cruise in.

You can kinda see the shift knob in teh second to last picture, it's a skull.

I love the originality of this, the chains/sprockets are awesome. Brass knuckles must be the up and coming fad, b/c I've seen a few watercoolers with them in it.

Safe? How about getting hit from behind would pretty much remove your brain stem?

If you don't think that car is over the top, I'd like to know what you DO consider over the top is. Smile

I remember seeing that car about two months ago at the Plant City show. I liked it, although it looks very uncomfortable.

That's some nice metal work, but it's gone overboard IMO.

I think we can all agree that we didn't buy our bugs because they are a SAFE vehicle to travel in. If you get into a head on crash, you're screwed!
