Check last pages for new pics
This is Pvt. Pyle. He's a 75' VW Transporter Type II.
He's lived quite an adventurous life over the past few years.
It all started a few years ago when I bought him from an ebay'er from Tennesse a few years back. Long story short, he blew his motor (which was a single port 1300cc :screwy: ) on the way back home from TN to VA.
The incident
The motor
I replaced the motor with a 1600DP that I rebuilt myself from the block up. Just stock internals, with dual empi 34IDF carbs, with a stinger exhaust.
About a year and a half ago...after I got it running like a top...of course fiancial hardships struck, and I had to sell her to via Craigslist.
She looked like this when I sold her...
A few months ago I was trolling craigslist, and happened to see him again for sale. For a few hundred dollars more...of course.
New status... after his shoddy body work. He also sold my stinger and got a different exhaust.
Took this pic at the Initech building from the movie "Office Space". Yes thats Lumberg's spot.
Since acquiring him, I have replaced the clutch and flywheel, side door mechanism, sheered off axle bolts had to be drilled out and replaced, general maintenance, and tweaked the carbs occasionally...Other than that he's been pretty solid mechanically.
Now, for the body... I have countless weekends working on the body. I sanded down the roof to the bare metal with a drill and 2" rust disc on a dewalt drill. I hand sanded the panels down to the og paint, and knocked the rust off those panels.
I have since painted from the windows down with green chalkboard paint. I orginally wanted to do chalkboard green and chalkboard black from the windows up.
I soon came to the realization it was entirely too hot in texas summers for black chalkboard paint...So I decided to go with Pure Ultra White, and try and bring back the nostalgic vw coloring.
^Last weekend I finally got my bumpers done and all my lights working!
Here's some rolling shots from yesterday and a chalk "masterpiece" from a vw gtg.

Money Shot
So yeah, I can update with more pics if you guys like.
Figures I should make a thread, I've been here long enough... _________________ 1975 Baywindow-

Cool. I like the chalkboard style. Much cooler than the previous black. I sure hope you have some sort of tin around that Type 1 motor there. _________________ '73 Transporter - Driver

Love the chalk idea. Get tired of it, wash it off and draw anew! Looks good. |

What? Thats so awesome! My bus was orginally white/tan as well! I guess it was a popular color combo here in Texas _________________ 1975 Baywindow- |
