|
|
I have been told that Sekurit was the only original glass used in the oval years. My 1955 has Duro-Glas in every window. I was told that Duro-Glas was the replacement glass, but in the detailed history I have of my car, the original owner mentioned nothing about every window in the car being busted and replaced. Does anybody out there know the real story?
Thanks! |

Believe you got some bad information there. There are many ovals with Duro Glas. _________________ Roads Scholar

Everything but the front window in my '53 Oval is large logo Sekurit. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

my '55 is also all Duro-Glas, both of my '54s are all large logo Sekurit _________________ There is an idea of a Billmetric; some kind of abstraction. I think you both your '54s were intended for the European market. Canadian and US cars were required to have Safety Glass in the front windows before '54. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

and the verdict is? Sekurit=factory and Dugo-Glas=replacement or it could be either or with no rhyme or reason? _________________ 58 Coral Red ragtop(Diana's car)

BTW, my front window is not Duro-Glass either. It is SIGLA and original to the car. (Export Deluxe 11C Canadian delivery M89 code) _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

Both SEKURIT & DUROGLAS supplied VW with glass.
Seems more people prefer SEKURIT, but DURAGLAs is acceptable. Just like most prefer Kamax bolts to Dorn, Rasche & Verbus. But they all came factory. |

Most factorys got at least 2 suppliers, if they got problem with one of them, they have another to trust. |

maybe you mean Semperit tires , I've had a few of them too, as far as windshields go one of my '54s was a grey market import but the other was a real US spec car, unfortunately both had later replacement generic american replacement windshield glass, most early US spec laminated safety glass I see has the Sigla Ver Bund stopsign octagon logo, my '55 which I imported from Germany in 1990 had the original Duro Glas tempered windshield with the "clear view" section in front of the driver, if the sunlight was right or you had polaroid sunglasses on you could see the extra tempered bullseye in front of the driver, that is untill one day I was on Highway 99 north of Fresno and a small boulder fell off a dump truck and turned the tempered windshield into a complete spiderweb of crystals except for the "clear view" tempered area, I then realized what that ment, it gave me a one foot circle of glass that I could see out of until I got off at the next exit, the crystalized glass stayed in one piece long enough to make it home and park it untill I could source another windshield _________________ There is an idea of a Billmetric; some kind of abstraction. My BC. Ok, I know, it´s a `57:
Code M 089 says the windshield is laminated.
The "mistery" is when I removed the windshield (all my glasses has DuroGlass double-view logo) I only saw one lay. I have another windshield, a small Sekurit logo, and the double glass is perfectly visible in the borders... Not to hijack the topic but... could it be `cause someone replaced ALL the glasses of my car? _________________ 1957 Oval Window - Polar Silver L324

Thanks Simon! That logo is really new to me! Should it be related to Sigla Co. ? _________________ 1957 Oval Window - Polar Silver L324

Hi Simon,
Your car is certainly CKD assembled in New Zealand, as all glass is armourfloat
The S with NZ inside is the logo showing compliance with the New Zealand standard. The glass was part of the local content.
I believe these beetles were assembled with local Australian & German content.
Australian assembled beetles had very high local content & their glass has the Australian standard AS logo.
Cheers Ivan |
