i just bought a European RHD 66 bug, it came with late round button door handles with SC profile. only driver's side can be locked from outside. converted to 12v, original F series engine.

i contacted Gabrille, but was told i need to send the locks over to get everything keyed together as 1 key.

questions

1. It has another key for the ignition, wondering if it has been changed, if yes, any idea what switch it is?

2. Does 66 come with SC profile?

3. It has a late model headlamp switch, but was not really bolted on because the hole is smaller. any idea how a 66 switch should look like and if they are still available new?

4. should i keep the late model switch?

original colour is L360 Sea Blue, Platinum interior with the usual 66 1 off specials. ...a lot are torn and broken though... Sad

missing some chrome trims, no jack, no manuals, 1 original key, ignition changed b4.

SC is one of three possible correct profiles for 66. Your ignition switch key is not a correct profile for 66 so it's been swapped out. I don't recognize the profile on that key.

thanks a lot dude. the ignition switch i got could most likely be aftermarket, but it works very good though.

looks like i may have to DHL my door, engine lid lock to Gabrilel and get him to sort out a new ignition switch for me...lol

Yes, the two styles of '66 handles are interchangeable.

It's a little tricky though, because not all square button handles are the same (earlier won't work on '66), and not all round button are the same ('67 won't work on '66).

I personally wouldn't change out your nice, original round button handles if that is what you're considering.

I was hoping someone else would jump in on the headlight switch question, because it can be a little confusing.

Originally European cars used a different switch than US-spec cars in '66. The European switch was the same from '61 all the way through the end of '67. This is the same switch as used in the US from '61 through '64 or '65. The part number is 311.941.531A.

WW repops it, but gives it the wrong P/N, and I can't comment on the quality. If I were looking for one, I would go with a NOS one.

Now, when you say that you have a late model switch in your car, this makes me concerned that someone has mutilated the original wiring and hacked in lots of stuff that doesn't belong. So it's impossible to say what the best way to go is without more information. How many terminals are on the switch you have now? How many terminals are wires connected to, what are they labeled on the switch, and where do the wires go?

Take a look at the wiring diagrams for non-US 66s and US 66s. Which does it match, especially regarding the switch and relays?

ok....from this link http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/paintcodestype1.php

it says the rim colour for my 66 would be L289 Blue white and black disc

but i have seen in a few mags, last 1 or 2 month's volksworld, some japanese mags i see the 66 shown in those mags with L360 Sea Blue has some beige rims

so which is which ??

is the L289 Blue White aplicable to US models only?
