I plan on using 2x2 down the sides and using aluminum diamond plate on the floors. I'm going to make a center console to cover the tunnel and wiring and I am changing it to bucket seats instead of the bench. You can see in the pics that I moved the E-brake mount back.
Thanks for looking Exclamation

Yes it is all new chrome, I did a complete rebuild over the winter on the motor, I still need a new coil and wire it, but other than that, it is ready to fire up Very Happy
As to the paint job, I do plan on keeping it for a little while, I really like it. It is chipped up and a run here and there. Here is a close up of the front

You moved the e-brake handle back, I guess you are going with bucket seats?

I got the rest for the frame welded and started makeing the lip for the floor to set on. Since most of the time I am working alone I made a way to rotate the frame using 2 engine stands, man it works great.

That is a lot of work and it is looking great. I think body will look great with the original patina and art work. It will give it a real period look. You can always bling out the wheels.

That is a great idea of using two engine stands to flip the engine. I worked by myself also and just flipped it over on the concrete floor. That may be why I am having back trouble now. Laughing

You mounted the parking brake on the chassis serial #. Will Ohio put a new assigned number on a modified chassis?

I still have the piece with the number, I just plan on welding it back on behind the parking brake mount. I hope it will not be a problem.

Are you going to cut the old lip down? You don't want to have that sharp edge.

I agree. The transparent caps are pure junk. Replace it before you have a problem.

If you already have it titled and registered, you'll probably be OK.

If you need to take it to the DMV to be checked, they probably won't accept it. Best case might be they assign you a new "special construction" number.

I do already have it titled and registered, I did that first before i started working on it. It had an out of state title on it so I had to get an out of state inspection done before I could transfer the title to me.
also I heard some VWs had a VIN plate, does any one have a picture of one?
Thanks for the advise on the distributor cap, I will carry my old one with me.

PostPosted: Tue Jun 23, 2009 6:47 pm    Post subject: I belive I have a Min T Reply with quote

I purchased a buggy the other day ... I am a 1st time owner of a VW. I believe it to be a Min t.

The previous owner was building a rat rod out of it ... so he hacked the front fenders off of it ... did a terrible job ... not enough material to put them back.

The bigger problem is the IRS frame is also missing the VIN number ... what can be done?

I figured that the fenders would have to be replaced with "Plymouth Prowler Like" fenders. Only since I can not reattach the original fenders ... to bad.

Also are windshoelds available?

WOW! The frame is coming out Great! Very nice Score with that Buggy! The motor looks Sweet! Is it a stock rebuild or did you add some "go fast goodies"? I like the look of the diamond plate floor too.

rbenson, Does it still have the metal where the VIN was? Reason I ask is because I bought a Buggy & I couldn't read the numbers. A buddy of mine tried "raising the numbers" by using some type of acid & he could read them. Maybe someone here can tell you the process, or acid to use, or I could ask him. He's a member here & I can send him your info or vise versa...

Sorry for the Hijack, just wanted to try helpin him out!

Back to the regularly schedualed program...

Thanks for the compliments, the motor is a stock rebuild except for 87mm jugs.

Hey rbenson0803, you could try to do a vin plate or vin number search here, that might help you out (lots of good info).

I saw one of these for sale at Larry's Off Road drag/show/swap event 2 years ago and should have bought it. I have wanted this body style every since.

Nice work on the pan. I think I would have to raise the body a little too to allow room for my legs, 6'2".
