Now that is gorgeous! Looks to be very early, KDF era.

WWW needs to get busy on those heads. Wink

Was this engine designed for the 1950 Solitude races?

70hp is quite a lot for a 1100cc.... perhaps this engine was running on Methanol? Shot it the dark - Petermax perhaps?

No, its not the Petermax engine. The Petermax engine is a Porsche type 367 engine which was based on the type 115 (one of the test engines for the Berlin Rom) .
One more hint:
this engine is chain driven.

The Type 367 had the horizontal cooling as well, right? I am trying to find the engine with this valve layout, I read that the Type 369 also had this layout. I love mysteries like this, but will leave it to the experts. I have a mystery 1934 pic, maybe for later Wink

Chain drive? Is it from a motorcycle? Possibly something to do with Zundapp? Or is that too far back?

you are getting closer...

it has chain drive like an 911 but was built 15 years earlier. look at the cylinder heads and think about were the old professor was born.

It is not the italian motor. The italian CFM engine (Carlo Francesconi Mestre) used Königswellen like Fuhrmann did. the CFM was built in 1949. We have the original construction drawings.

Chain drive to the vehicle from the flywheel side? Does sound like an airplane engine. OR do you mean the valve train is chain driven?
That or a mountain racer or boat engine of some kind?

Mike
