Most class 11 racers run a 235/75/15 with out to much rubbing. I have 225/75/15's on my class 11 look a like and have plenty of room.

Bump.
Have any of you guys had problems with using a 215/75/15 tire?
Why do you wish you had your 235/75/15's back on front?
Thanks for any help guys... Just getting ready to put new tires on my bug and I'm wondering what will work best.
Specs- stock VW rims, lift spindles, raised rear to match, has full body fenders on it too, no body lift kit.

Love the 7x15s. but depending where you are located you may have difficulty finding them. I am located in Ontario, Canada and have been looking for tires the same as you are. All the shops i have talked to say that they are hard to come by and if they could find them they will be a while to order.
Another that was suggested was the 235/75/15 which i have found everywhere for a reasonable price and with VERY aggressive treads, especially when you get into the Mud tread series. Im sure theres folks on here that could show some photos.
When it gets a bit warmer here, im going with the 235/75/15s on my 68.

Most tire shops now days do not want to mess with special order tires. They do not make that much money off them. They would rather sell you a stock tire size that they have on the shelf. _________________ Society is like stew. Which is another reason i will probably go with the 235/75/15. For myself its more common up here so if i go out friday and slash my tire, i can go to the shop on saturday and get a new tire installed and be on my way.
I suppose it will depend where you are located. Im not farmiliar with any US dealers. Sorry to Hijack the thread a bit there but ive been looking for tires aswell and thats what i have come up with.

Auslander, what kind of suspension changes have you done to your car?
Nice looking Nanco's by the way thats one tire I have in mind.
Just thinking that the 235's will rub pretty bad on the bug (lifted with spindles) because I know the 225's I had on my baja rubed (it was stock height)
Why do you hate your 215's? haha
Thanks for the help all!

Here's mine with 235/75 ATs mounted on 5.5" wheels. I get very slight rubbing, but nothing that damages either the tire or the fenders. I do get some rubbing at full turn near the bulkhead.
I'm actually pretty happy with the 235's. The headlight buckets can be a problem without the lift spindles.

Mods i've done to the car:
Front Beam is adjustable
3in Lift Sprindles
Rear Spring plates reindexed
I raised the rear a bit more here is a crappy pic
There is quiet a few VW shops that will ship the 7 x 15's and they advertise on here:

Got alot of miles on the 7 x 15 this weekend. On the rough terrain, mud, and in water they performed well. The only problem i had was in the soft sand the rear would drift a bit but still maintained speed. In the deep soft sand it was really rough in patch's i was down shifting to 1st not to get stuck. I also had to drive on a rear flat for 50 miles _________________ Zombie

That sucks!
What is the flat from?
also auslander, how much of a lift did you get in your rear end? Did you stay with type 1 cv's?
You too AZ-BUG.. I read your build thread but couldn't find any info about what work you had done to the rear suspension.
Thanks guys!

I run 700x15 on my class 11 and love em. Very stiff sidewall. Infact, during 1 particular race, I had a front flat and didn't even realize it. People kept pointing to the front as I drove by. Did a whole lap like this. The only downfall is, if you plan to drive in sand or soft stuff, you can air way down on the tires and not much happens as far as the tire getting soft for more traction. Yes the front tires will rub on the bulkhead part of the pan. What I did to fix this was put longer bolts in the steering stop brackett that is on the beam and adjusted them to stop wheel turn to just before the tire hits the inner body/pan. |
