Not bad! An inch+ shorter in height though, but better load capability. _________________ 89 Westy 2.1 Auto |

BFG has revamped most of the offroad tires and have good sizes in 14, 15 and 16 for use with Vanagons.
I will check with my local tire distributor, Towne Fair Tire and get a price.
They have beaten Tire Rack on every tire I've looked at and purchased.
Free M&B, rotation and road hazard too.
$139 mounted and balnced.
They must be ordered as they are new.

I know that I have not been here for quite a while now but this is perfect.
This is really nice for me... I've been searching for about a week now looking for tires like these:
and have come up with nothing, although I have not been feverishly searching either. Reason is I can't get them for another two weeks, but new shoes for my 87' Wolfsburg have been on the list since I bought the Van. Now I need them; I don't just "want them".
I have been to six different tire shops here locally, and all, without fail, have shaken their heads the moment that I mention that my rims are 14". I have the alloys.
I did not want to loose the stock wheels, but I did want tires like those... and that means 15"/16" rims and added cost.
Who has the best deal on the West Coast?
Ps: Thanks PDXWesty, for the pictures... and to you PW for the 500 emails. It was dissapointing to find this in my search:

I confirmed the sad news today.
Email response from BFG:
Thank you for your email. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you.
We apologize that the 27X8.50R14 All Terrain T/A KO has been discontinued
and is no longer available. We no longer produce a tire in this size.
Thank you for considering BFGoodrich tires.

| Sorry if this has been asked before but how much more road noise do these make compared to a street tire and compared to the Hakkapalita? |

Busryder, are those tires the one that are posted on the link? The 14" all terrain bfg? Those look really nice. I clicked the link, but I didn't see a price. How much? _________________

Actually the circumference is pretty close.....
185R14 = 80.58" vs 185/75/14 = 80.14"
~811 revs per mile vs 815 revs per mile
Overall diameter =
25.65" vs 25.51" |

No. These are not the tires in the first link posted in this thread, instead the pic's that I posted are of the original BFG's that were discontinued in late 08' (I think). If you look at the bottom of my first post you will find the thread that I found the tires pictured here in. I hope that these new ones are similar in appearance to the old 27x8.50R14, as they are c@nt hair close in stats. _________________

The old TA KOs were 27x8.50R14 which is very close to 215/75R14. The new ones are 195/75R14 so a bit smaller (26.92 vs 25.51 inch diameter, 772.6 vs 815.3 revs per mile) but otherwise will look exactly the same. BFG's look sweet on Vanagons, a blocky van deserves a blocky tire.
Road noise is not a problem with these tires, good wet performance, pretty good in the snow. IMO the old ones were the best Vanagon tire available at the time. The new size and load rating is better still, and they should produce close to accurate speedo readings. Good news for Vanagon owners, especially us Aircooled guys (the bigger tires bump up the CHT on the highway). |

Stock size tires give a high reading on the speedo. My 215/75/15 tires give a dead on guage reading that has been GPS verified. |

| Interesting, my 1980 reads slow relative to GPS on the 27x8.50R14 BFG's at highway speed. My other van, also a 1980, reads fast on 185/75R14. I figured the 195/75 would be pretty close to ideal, but maybe it depends on the van. |

I've had the 27x8.5 14's for about 15,000 miles now. They were surprisingly quiet when installed. They've gotten a bit noisier with age, but NOTHING compared to the Bridgestone Dueler A/T's I had before. Those things sounded like tractor tires.
The BFG's are great in dirt and rain I have had good luck with them in snow, although some say they don't do a good job of clearing their treads.
And, most importantly, they look really, really cool with the Vanagon alloys. I get lots of compliments on them from all sorts of people, rednecks and hippies alike.
I keep thinking I'm going to move up to the 16" CLK wheels and more conventional tires, but I can't see spending the dollars when this setup has worked well for this long.

Anyone know if the BF Goodrich's will be available in the UK (or an alternative) in 14s?
