hi there, i am working on a 1972-411 auto, i noticed that some wires were cut off under the deceleration valve and
the other end is hanging next to the coil...
see the picture...
[img]
1=deceleration valve ?
2=engine speed relay ?
3=cut wires (4), how are they connected to the valve ?
this is the other end,where do these wires go to ???(may be the coil...)
this one is just hanging there..it has two white wires at one end... |

Do you have a Wiring Diagram & a $5 VOM from Harbor Freight? You can't own Any car without a couple decent Manuals from www.books4cars.com. You can trace the wiring from Front to Back pretty easily since they're colored! _________________ 69 FI/AT square Daily Driver

Ok....but the last post was good advice. you will need a VOM for this to trace a few wires back to their source. As for that double white wire...that should trace back to the fuel injection relay on the drivers side of the engine compartment (sedans)...it should be on top of the ECU under the right rear armrest on the wagons. What plugs into it is a fat red wire from the starter that should be coming through a grommetted hole in the tin near #1 cylinder. Another stripped fat red wire leading to the heater relay (if memory serves) should also plug into that. Under your rear seat..drivers side...is a rack of heater relays. The inputs are lettered and numbered. At terminal "G" on the big silver relay....you will see a fat double red wire. That red wire leads to that T shaped onnector where the double white wire is plugged in. The last leg of that T plugs into terminal 30 on the starter. You probably have a wire dangling under there and another on the drivers side of the engine compartment.
The decel valve...i am looking for a diagram for. I'll get back to you Ray |

hi there, i found that red wire hanging on the other side of the tin,it has female connectors at both ends, i will connect one end to the "y" connector with two white coming into it, but the male connector terminal #30 of the starter is missing,i think i have one somewhere...
so Ray that wire is always hot ??? did not find any other wire on left side...
i do have few good VOMs and a Hayne's repair manual but the wiring diagram does not cover this
thank you Ray

No problem!. Yes, the electronic decel valve is not covered in any of the normal manuals. I do recall a diagram of it somewhere. I'm looking. But...for the moment, the car should drive well. You can drive without the decel valve. You might get a bit of poping on high speed deceleration. You could install a manual decel valve (vacuum) if need be.
That red wire...IIRC...is only hot when the starter is cranking. Its set up this way so that while all power is being diverted at the key for cranking....the fuel injection and heater do not lose powerwhile cranking. No point having spark and cranking if no fuel is injecting. Ray |
