I decided to take on a project for myself and some friends to see if I could accurately reproduce the rarely seen or heard of Superior Control bars. I believe they came out rather nicely. They are powder coated red and silver and I use all grade 5 & 8 and class 10.9 hardware.

Thanks, Bob, for my set of the control bars. They look superb!
Installed them on my Herbie replica as soon as I got them and noticed the difference in handling around corners immediately. Cheers.

I purchased two set of these bars after spending years trying to find an original set with no luck. I have to say, these bars are as well made or better than the originals and the powdercoat finish is much nicer. The workmanship is top notch and they fit perfectly. All welds are very clean and every thing is carefully deburred and smoothed. The hardware included is nice grade and complete. I'm very glad Bob took on this daunting project. Thanks, Bob! Worth every penny.

I bleive they are only for swing axles modles... Irs VW's have those built in, so to speak...

And regarding their function, i presume they stabilize the lateral travel of the swing axles during hard cornering.

Looks dead nuts. The clamps need to be chromed though. What are you using for bushings between the clamp and the arm?

I thought about getting the clamps chromed but the quality of chrome sucks now days. The originals rusted under the car because of the cheap chrome job they received. Heck I've seen NOS sets with rust right out of the box. So I had them powder coated for durability. The bushing is a military spec grommet. I don't recall the durometer rating right now but it's similar to the rubber of a car tire.

You need to place an ad in the classified section.

I had all of the parts laser cut for accuracy unlike the originals that were all stamp cut and had pretty rough edges. Here is a few more pictures including a side by shot shot of mine with my original bar.

This should help explain them, this is from another thread talking about the original bars.

The stock spring plates are spring steel and twist and bend without much control. You can see how much movement they have with the transaxle out. Just clamp a pair of vise grips to the end and twist.

These control bars anchor the springplates diagonally, limiting the twisting action and movement from side to side. They really do work, but work best on a suspension that is close to stock ride height. (Back in the day, we didn't lower them.) I've autocrossed with these control bars, and they are a big improvement.

The reason they stopped selling them is simple. They became obsolete with the introduction of IRS, and were sold up until the mid 70s when swingaxle Beetles started to disappear from the roads. The reason the camber compensator returned (which is not as good IMO) was due to the mythic reputation of EMPI.

Thanks to the "Baron" he knows his stuff.

Anybody with the spare cash would be nuts not to ad these to their car. They're brilliant.

I started this thread to show the bars. And to discuss them, an add has since been placed in the classified adds that will hopefully answer some of the other questions.
