What years are the large logo hubcaps period correct? Were they standard or an option?

That's interesting. The worse thing about getting older is finding out how many times you were fooled when you were younger. I purchased a set from a prominent vintage parts store back in 1980 that claimed they were "known to be used until 1954". Good thing is I only paid $80.00 for all 4...wait...thats about $400.00 now...worse yet they are probably repro's. But at least they were hand painted by shaky Jake Shocked

OK I am 99.9% these are repro but how can you tell just to be sure? There is only one hole shouldn't there be two? I can't find a VW stamp either.

The only VW stamp is the big logo on them. Wink
Just one little hole instead of two in the edge is correct for such early ones but the repros are usually less sharp pressed in the logo area.

Now you got me curious, pressing appears to be pretty sharp. Hard to tell from pictures. was anyone making repro's of these in 1980?

The originals and the first run of large-logo repros (heavyweight) from the late '70s/early '80s had the single puller hole. Some of the old-timers on the site might know if these were OEM.
