Hello-

Has anyone tried one of these?

They look like a good idea (assuming that you don't break off the mounting bolts while extracting them.) Wink

Thanks,

Paul

Those look like parts that originally came on Thing beams. Basically they attact to the ends of the beam and tie it in to the pan to make it more rigid for off roading.

Here's the Thing brace - the bottom looks similar, but the CSP brace doesn't connect to the upper beam.

The Thing pan has a reinforced area where the brace attaches to the pan. I'm curious how the CSP is supposed to attach. It seems like it would help strengthen the beam from fore-aft movement, but I don't see how it would provide much benefit in keeping the beam from twisting along the tunnel axis.

the CSP bars are 99% exact copies of what was fitted as OEM to Bugs exported to Japan and Thailand , a few more countries that I am not sure.

in my part of the world, we have been using these bars for close to 20 years now since we get them from abandoned cars.

the only part that is different is the squarish rectangle plate that acts as a washer.

this is how they look like on my 66

this is a Japan spec car, came factory fitted with these bars, see the washers

i do not know the exact reason why VW originally fitted these though , maybe some sort of safety compliance?

i have seen those and those feel really crappy. the OEM ones are really heavy and huge. I believe the CSP ones should be the same.

I assume that the CSP pieces won't work with a slightly narrowed (2") beam?

For 2"~3" narrow beams, you need to redrill the grease fitting.

This is an OLD post, but it doesn't matter.

I run a turbo/FI street '73 Ghia. It was built just for straight line speed. I run no sway bars in the front. A 4' narrowed beam but KYB gas shocks all around, and a rear sway bar. The gas tank is a 10 gallon tank moved to the rear. It runs surprising well in corners. Smile
