Hey Guys,
I will be painting my bug Stratos Silver, but I have seen so many variations of the color and what people claim "is correct" for that famous L227.
Here are some pics below of what I have found and that claim to be Stratos Silver
This one looks Good!
This one looks Way too Blue
This one looks more like Iris Blue to Me
This one looks a lil too green
This one looks Close to Me
This one I took of a bug at a Show in NJ, looks close.

And this one was in Volksworld, I do like this One, but it seems too blue.
Your thoughts guys,

Colors have too many variances that can affect the hue, especially when viewed from a computer screen. Even my own '54 photographed on different days, the color looks to be a different shade
But this one looks to be like mine

This is my Car. I have to agree, depending on the day, time of day and the angle of the picture the color can change on the car. Here are a couple of mine with diffrent days pictures where taken.
This is a overcast day.
Bright sunny day
this one is a dusk. |

Yeah no question, monitors have a big play in it. Also, that color looks different on sunny days, cloudy days, etc. so... I mean, if my painter comes close to the color mix, I'm fine with that, not gonna shoot myself, hehehe.

The one from the New Jersey show is my car. I used Glasurit in the hopes that it would get me as close to original as possible... _________________ Regards, John

Thank you for the compliment. The interior was done done by Convertible World (Long Beach, Ca) and the carpets were supplied by Dylan Cheasly in the UK. _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

Hey Man,
I believe I met you there when I saw your bug. There were a couple other cars there that thought they had the "stratos" as well, but your I thought looks pretty damn close. do you still own the car?

Hi CVALLONE,
Thanks, and yes I still own the car. Haven't had it out much in the past couple of years due to other commitments, but I hope to get back to that Jersey show this year. A very nice event! _________________ Regards, John

This is my bug and depending on the lighting, the color of my car can actually look like all of the other pictures you posted (except for the greenish one) |

I love your car, I am modeling my 55 rag similar to yours. Cloth interior and such. Where did you get your headliner?

Chris, (weird, seems like I'm writing this to myself )
My interior was restored here in the Netherlands by Rene van Brunsschot of the Kevermagazijn who also supplied all the cloth materials.
Here are some pictures of the before, during and after:

After
Hope this helps you in your search for your interior

Nice, I like that you opted for the warmer tone over the grayish cooler stuff. It's interesting, many people in the states do not go for the cloth material or even know the correct colors that were offered. Strato in the states used red in many of their bugs, something I just do not care for on a color like that. So far out of all the color combos I have seen through many articles in mags and on the net, yours is the best I have seen.
It has PoP, and appeals to the eye. Congrats. I am going to go with sewfine in Texas. They have a tweed cloth material in cream white, they also offer tan vinyl. I will show a pic of what I have done below.
Bear in mind this is an Iris Blue 55 bug that I did this on, I will be doing the same for my strato.
These guys in Texas can do anything you want, seats and door panels are excellent quality. The tweed is just awesome, it breaths and will not give the sweaty back on long trips, hehehe. ) It is a nice woven material.
I hope you like it,

Hey,
Thank you for your kind words. I can tell you that it was a long and hard decision:
Do I go for the color (gray) that the car originally came with or do I go for the other available option available back in 1954.
After seeing both interiors in real life the choice was made and I have not regretted it since. I'm happy with how it looks and the quality of the work.
The pictures of your car really blew me away. I think it looks really stylish and from the pictures it seems the quality is of a high standard. Have you had this car long? Hope the car drives as lovely as she looks!
Cheers, Chris |

We just finished the car recently, so I have been driving it for about a month or so. It will go up for sale soon, because I am restoring an early 55 ragtop which will be the the stratos silver, and I will go with that same interior I put in the car above. You definitely made the right choice in your car, the other interior you were thinking about just would not PoP!
The interior I put in is excellent quality, sewfine does amazing stuff, on par with Lenny's stuff at WCCR. I have worked with both companies and both are great, and if you want very similar quality for almost half the price, sewfine is the way to go. Carol can make anything.
One thing I wanted to ask you, how do you keep your cloth clean? That is the only downside to cloth.
Also some tidbit for others out there looking to paint in STRATOS SILVER, I have been searching through swatch books of modern day cars to see what color is close to stratos, and I found the amazing 2009 BMW color Neptune Blau or Neptune Blue. It is sooo close to Stratos. The benefit with going with a new color??? Easy to mix, easy to match, just save the code number and any paint shop equipped with the correct technology can bring that color up. So any damage to a fender or something can easily be resprayed.
