I looked it up 3 months back, but didn't record. Think it was about 260 lbs.

Probably depends what you're looking for. Stock or modified, aluminum or magnesium case, deep sump, IDA's vs Solex, oil/no oil all will add up and change the weight.

a longblock on a small pallet was 350 lbs or so. Sucker is NOT light. Don't try to lift a longblock by yourself. Save your back. Once you slip a disk, no going back. Laughing

Two people can lift a longblock relatively easily. That's how much it weighs in my mind Laughing

INTERESTING SITE: Lots of engines with transmissions
with reference to source

VW flat-4 air cooled 215 with heater boxes; 180 stripped
**Kennedy Engineered Products adapter catalog**
(guess one has to use their imagination what stripped means)
(but did find shipping weight on one heater box at 25 lbs ... guess that
includes the shipping box with packing at Pierside Parts)

another reference:
VW flat-4 Type 1 250 lbs 1600cc dual port, stock flywheel,
clutch, doghouse oil cooler, Monza
muffler, Bosch alternator, twin
Solex/Kadron carbs with manifolds and
linkage, heater boxes, all sheet metal,
without oil

By fully built, I take it that you mean dual carbs, header, etc. Mine weighs 264 lb with IDA's and header/muffler.
