That looks like the stock Hitachi carb on my old Datsun 510, they also used it on early chevy LUV pickups. it was a good carb on a stock motor, It would probably work pretty good on a 1600 ACVW motor.

Interesting, I've never seen a kit like that... could be for 40horse.

The glass float bowl window DOES make it look like the ones used on late 60's early 70's Japanese cars.

Nikki made a four barrel that was used on the early Mazda Rotary motor, they worked so good it was hard to get much more power with any other carb. I know quite a few autocrossers and road racers that ran the stock carb on there 12A motors.

I also have one of these carbs on the shelf, was considering fitting it to a 1500 engine I have. It looks a lot of fun, but I'm a bit unsure whether a two-barrel carb like this will manage to improve hp given that it is bolted to a stock manifold.....?

Anyway, its all about the looks, right? Very Happy

I know this topic is old but... is someone running one of those carbs now? I have a spare one and I'm curious of how does it run

Yep running one on my 1600 beetle..... proper nice carb and once set up well it gives plenty of grunt and runs as sweet as a sewing machine

Just needs a bit of persuasion with the gas pedal when cold starting for a minute or two..... wouldn’t even swap it out for a set of Dels or ITCs

What I heard from old post from other websites is that there nikki carbs where popular in the late 70s 80s in England they where cheaper than a rebuild solex carb at that time like what ???? But seem to have ice up a lot in the winter / cold climate..👉 https://ssvc.org.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=90032
