|
|
Does anyone have any pics or links to pics of what the VW Beetle tunnel looks like on the inside? I'm wondering where all of the brackets for the clutch tube are located, how high the E-brake tubes are, where the shifter rod runs, that sort of thing.
I know that I could pull everything apart, just start chopping, and learn through experience, but a handful of pics of where things are located before I begin would be a BIG help ! ! Even partial pics of either end or already chopped up spines/pans would be helpful.
Thanks,

BL3manx continues to impress, Glenn must have a doctors scope or something, I had to use a sawzall to answer the question.
Hope the extra angle helps answer your needs.

Definitely, I just had seen them posted in the Gallery section before. I am curious about a couple things on that chassis though. How come its LHD?, I thought Australia was RHD. Also, why is there both an old style heater control knob and a late model seat belt anchor nut plate? |

Thank gang ! ! As usual, answers all of my questions. I was most concerned with the e-brake tubes being so high and close to the wall(s) of the tunnel, plus I didn't want to break any of the tabs/brackets/etc.
Terrific info/pics/diagram ! !

Here's a pic at the front of the tunnel. Sure would like to see Glen's pic with the shift-shaft out of the way. I think I've got an idea what the bracket originally looked like.

hello.
i am new here. and i just got a baja last week after 20 years abroad without a Vdub.
My parking brake is busted. i took it off to repair and repaint. when i did this, the piece with the teeth fell straight down into the tunnel to the tunnel floor. anybody know the best way to get it back out?
thanks.

You might be able to grab it with a flexible magnet wand...... _________________

How about just a piece of wire with a hook bent on the end. |

Most auto parts and hardware stores have telescoping magnetic wands for picking up "dropped things"... Usually about $2 to $5 range....
Something similar to this....

Thanks so much! i got the magnet thingie last night and used it this morning. pulled it out first try! (once i drug the magnet around a bit, trying to be certain i connected with the part).
a loose , long woodscrew came out too! so i will fish around and se if i can pull anything else out before the parking brake gets reinstalled.
my first try at getting advice here in the forum.
so we are 1-for-1.

I'm glad you got help quickly.
One thing that puzzled me is that your user info indicates a location of Poland and yet you ask about getting the magnet at an auto parts store or Walmart as if you are in the US. Have you just moved back to the US from having spent some time in Poland? While the Iron Curtain is long gone, I expect things are still a little different in Poland than they are in the US. I used to work with an engineer who had been a rally Champion in Poland when the Iron Curtain was up. He told stories of what it was like for a motorsports guy there at that time. _________________ Richard

There are some amazing very old VW kubelwagens, schwimmwagens, type 1s and ambulance/fire engine vans. And you came back without something amazing. |
