Just swapped a notch venetian blind for a early type 3 sub-frame which had IRS brackets welded on just the way I wanted.

After getting it home, I examined it closer and come to the concussion that its actually a lateish sub-frame with frame horns welded on instead.

I came to that by examining the welds and clearly saw some were sub par and the irs brackets are factory type with factory looking welds in the factory positions. Also I am pretty sure the early frame horn type frames were not welded on at the torsion tubes half way but was a single stamping from front to back.

So anyway looks to have be an exceptional job who ever did it despite some of the crap welds, must of been experienced as it was one 2 the guy had, he did make it though and thats why he told me the irs brackets were welded on.

So my question is... can someone give me the geometry measurement of the horn positions relative to the top of the tower plan.

pic of what I mean. I need to be sure the positions are correct to factory specs.

So I am after the distance preferably in mm from the flat plain on top of the tower, down to the very center on the carrier bolts. The red lines show where to measure from. I would use a flat steel edge like a ruler edge and hold it flat on top of the tower and the other end above the carrier bolt, then measure 90o straight up and down. oh both sides for an average would be awesome Wink

If anyone can do this for me that would help heaps.

this is what I have measured so far. 300mm is consistent on both side and even cross measurements from opposing tower to frame horn. Is 300 mm right?

Can anyone tell me what the trany carrier bolt/hole distance is suppose to be?

I don't have any carrier plates lying around to measure from.

This is all I can find in the factory shop manual.

vertically seem fine as they both measure 300mm in relation to either/both towers.

Do you have a carrier/mount that you can measure the bolt hole distance for me?

this thing Arrow

Only thing I have is a 75 super beetle that I could measure. And they had a different cross member.

I can take some measurements the next time I go to my shop. I think I have 4 subframes down there. 2 are IRS and 2 are swing. I won't be down there until later in the week though...

mmm don't worry. I drove all the way to a farm somewhere an hour out from my place that I found on nearmap.com

Anyway was looking for a early subframe. The guy there has one with the front cut off and and like 4 early type 3 cars.

well its 300mm. Laughing Crying or Very sad mine measures 308mm.

One horn is not welded in its proper position.

left horn is 150mm from center and right is 158mm from center.

arrh I traded a venetian blind for this Mad Rolling Eyes

I traded with Damo with the falcon GT looking notch. He did have 2 of them but I am pretty sure it will be another welded on horns like mine. I'll ask him.

Dam it! why is it so hard to fine swing axle sub-frames in Australia. Nearly took 6 moths to fine one and turns out its not even the real deal.
