Trying to find out if the bus below is the David Navarez bus that received 2nd Place in the Pre-67 Passenger Bus Class V20 at the VW Classic last weekend? I posted a photo of it in the Gallery and was contacted by some Sambanistas as to the color codes...if it's David's and he is here or if there is another owner, please post the codes here...Thanks, RHD

Isn't that just Mouse grey / Pearl white?

I saw this bus at the show and overheard the owner saying it is Mouse Grey but the color did appear to be slightly off in my opinion.
Especially when you compare it to Lind's bus.

I saw the bus up close at octo and the owner/builder insists it is mgr/pw. It is not in the least. It has a lot of brown and green in the gray and the pw is wrong too. Don't get me wrong it is a nice looking bus just a lot of money spent on the wrong color paint. IMO

I too drooled over that bus- and decided in person it looks a bit 'warmer' than Lind's Mouse Gray. I'm beyond caring due to it's inherent beauty.

Mouse grey.....it's very very difficult to get an exact match straight from any paint supplier today as most don't even have a formula. If they do have a forumla the pigments used today are very different than 50 years ago due to all the new environmental regulations.....example water based paint, etc.

It's best to use an original paint part or a period VW color sample book to insure the best match.

This is a nice bus...I spoke to the owner at OCTO, not originally built MGR PW bus, rather Tur BLW.

Here's the Glasurit Formula for Mouse Grey

Mouse Grey / Color code 325 / Year of usage 62-66H

70.0 parts 1051 weiB (White)
18.0 parts 1052 schwarz (Black)
09.5 parts 1053 ocker (Ochre)
02.5 parts 1054 rotbraun (Reddish-Brown)

I'm assuming the ocker here is the brown/orange colored version of ochre.

the mouse grey looked too light, and the pearl white looked too dark. maybe they averaged out to the right colors... Wink

mouse grey is such an awesome color.

From the paint page

"March 1961 up to July 1964
From Chassis Number 749 001 up to 1 328 271"

I also remember seeing in the mouse gray pearl white buses that in 61 the dash would have been gray. What models did they use mouse gray on past 1964?

I do not know of Mouse Grey being used later than '64 but I do see that Mouse Grey is the color used on some interior parts for post-64 Buses.

I do see it was a possible exterior color for Westys but I don't know if that went past 1964 either.
