been driving past this splitty here in vancouver for 3 years…maybe i'm only one who knew what it was underneath the tarp lol. made an offer and bam i took her home!
I'm currently building a 72 into a custom trailer….this one will be something i restore over the next year.
as i'm just getting comfortable with the bay windows…suspension etc….what can one tell me about my splitty from the basic pics? any info would be great as i'm pretty pumped i finally have one!
it had been sitting for 4 years….spent a bit of time on the engine, threw in a battery and she turned over…took for a short burn in the yard…no brakes! prolly have to fill up the res and pump the snot out of em.
but yeah….check it out!

Cool man. Looks like it has some bondo and the paint color is horrible, but looks like a nice project. Has both of the pressed bumpers, that's a bonus! |

Yes, yes, yes! Those bumpers are much "cooler", more collectible! But they provide a little less protection/strength than the later Splt-Bus bumpers.

Nice find, any motor pics? How was it lowered? that will play a major role in the ride of the bus. I have not been in a bay window, but I have driven a bunch of splittys, Mannys buses in NY ride like heaven, stock height. Steering can be tricky at first due to sloppy steering box, but very fun, LOL _________________ 62 Standard Type 2 (Nothing Fancy)

Will take motor pics when I head out to my storage in a few days
Was stoked that I got it to turn over and drive lol, it's pretty clean and straight.
Do you guys think that it used to be a panel van? I don't think those are stock windows? I could be totally wrong tho...! I'd like to restore back to og status |

I know it was lowered properly but I haven't dropped down to check it out yet..
Don't know if it's the same setup as bays but I'm guessing drop spindles? It was brought up from California about 4 years ago...as you can see the Cali plate in a pic or two haha |

Sweet - those windows must have been big in the 60's... My 61 has 'em too.
I drove bays at first, but splitty's are just uber cool... Love those wheels... _________________ 82 Westy ☢, 66 Splitty ☮, 73 Type 181 ✠ |

It's a 58 panel, that had windows cut in a long time ago. Those smaller windows seem to be very early. I have only seen them on late 50's and early 60's buses.
Nice score. Front suspension is quite different than the late bay that you are lowering into a trailer. Could have been done right, or wrong. Hard to say until we see more pics.
No M-code plate on that bus if it's features are correct. The VIN# will give you a more exact production date. Not the one behind the front seat, the one in the engine compartment forward firewall, on the right side of the engine, below the fuel tank. _________________ You can't spell sausage without "USA"! |

I saw that bus locally a couple years ago in Mission up at a scrap yard near Stave lake. Is that where you found it? Look forward to seeing what you do with it. It is much more complete than my 58 standard. So if you ever need a home for those bumpers let me know. |

It was on craigslist last spring but could never get hold of the owner. Glad it will stay local, what's your plans with it. _________________ september 1955 wolfsburg sc. |
