I posted this video in another thread but thought it might get missed by some people. Turned out pretty cool thanks to my brother Erick who did the editing. Prior to pulling it out showed to some Volkswagen guys from Boise. One of them made the comment it was Officially the lowest single cab in the world. Not only is it the lowest but it is bone stock. Check it out see what you think:

Cool video. What's the story behind the purchase? I assume you got it from the land owner. There's no way you would have gotten it out without that backhoe.
What are the plans for it? |

We plan on just running it as is. The body is very intact all original paint. The only casualty was the deck lid. It was buried under about a foot of dirt. I didn't realize it was there until it was to late. It is a little bent but I've fixed worse. Plan on pressure washing the underside, getting it on the lift and applying a generous helping of POR15 to the underside to discourage any future rust. The paint on the gates is amazing. The thing was only on the road for 8 years and then ended up parked at the dry farm land fill where we found it. It actually belonged to my neighbor. We bought a small acreage east of Idaho Falls. The guy across the street came by my shop to have me do some wiring on his Powerstroke and he saw my 60 double cab in the shop. He told me his father in law had one just like it parked on his farm only 10 minutes from the house we had just bought. That weekend we drove up to check it out. It was the middle of winter you could only see the top of the cab and some of the windshield frames. I figured it was just buried in snow. Wasn't until spring that we realized just how buried it really was. You could walk right up to it and on to the bed. The bed was level with the ground. I figured it was going to be totally rotten but luckily I was wrong. Took two days and about 9 hours total digging. The ground was full of all sorts of scrap metal which made digging difficult. The best part was when I asked the guy if his father in law would sell it. He told me "hell that things been there for over 40 years! You can have it!" I told it was worth something and that I would pay him for it but he refused. Price was right anyway. |

Nice job Jeremy. I remember the cell phone pics you sent me some time ago. It was hard to determine from THOSE pictures just how buried this SC was. Lind's pictures showing the bed at ground level really opened my eyes. Thank goodness for the backhoe or you would still be digging. Nice score!

Sweet find and great story!
"Dry Farm Land Fill"...???
So they are filling the land with dirt and junk?
I see all the pipes in the background...are they dredging a river and pumping it out there?
How long has it been buried? _________________ 1979 Type-2 Westfalia “Sandy”

Very cool extraction!
The only way that could have been more epic would have been if Kombisutra was there to bolt in an engine and transaxle and drive it home for you _________________ The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge

What an awesome video, nice work! Having the whole tribe involved in the extraction is very cool too. I was watching the heads in the Vanagon for flying fists during the "we're cold, this is boring, can we go home now?" parts but it looked like things stayed mostly under control

Thats how my Kombi was when I found it, not as deep though, just up to the rockers. I have been finding ALL kinds of places with hard compact dirt up in the frame. Before you pressure wash, you might want to break up the dirt with screwdrivers and wires. I wish I would of done it that way....pressure washing only got some if it! I caught the rest with my face when running new ebrake cables, and fixing the shifting rod....

As fast as he dug it out of there Id say it wont be long before its on the road Ok, now how many of you cringed every time he got within inches of the scab with his back hoe ? I for one, want more details. Mr scab dude, are you a backhoe operator? As I sat here watching the video of the find, a backhoe shows up in the middle of nowhere. Rent the backhoe? Details more details please.
Ok I fixed the l in hoe, _________________ Waiting for santa to drop off funky green. I can wish can't I????
