I got this in a trade deal recently and was told the following. It was build by AVSI and is dubbed a MULE???? I guess they built sandrails and cars etc? I was told this was built for the US Forest Service as a rescue vehicle to pull out stuck snow mobiles in or near the Lake Tahoe area?

It is based on a 1970 Bug pan and has a 1970's Bus rear torsion section grafted on so it runs a bay window trans etc. The whole body is metal and the top is fiberglass.

Maybe someone knows the previous owner(s) I can get in touch with to learn more history of this cool little buggy or who built it originally etc.

Any info would help.

there was one for sale in san antonio, texas a couple years back. it might be the same one if you notice it has the same tires as the one in the old ad. it was also called the "Mule"

I have seen pics of a few of these, when i was looking on the net for Empi Sportsters. I think they are called a "mule". Don't know too much about them but they are COOL. Looks like they used a VW front cowl section, or part of one, and chopped it off at the windshield pillars. I'd sure like to see more pics.

It is bizarre overall. I am hoping to start driving it soon once I make a few modifications like a new exhaust and do a general tune up etc. Low geared as all hell. I like the fact it can be completely enclosed so it is a year round toy.

Any one have more info? I just sent a PM to the guy who used to own it on the samba ad trying to dig up some more. Fingers crossed he responds.
