Here are some pictures of my 78 Non Walk Thru Bus. I got lucky and was able to save it from being sent off to Pick A Part.
Bought it from the daughter of the original owner. She didn't drive stick shift, and after her father passed away, she parked it.
Almost got him running. Still having problem with the fuel pump. Hope the pictures help you out. Let me know if you need any specific pictures taken.
Came with lots of extra parts such as 3 tires, engine seal, extra glass
and 2 windows. The slider behind the driver is broken. Wish you luck with your new bus from Sunny California. |
Could you take closer photo of the Window? Is it sliding window? |
Yes, it has a sliding window on the sliding door and one behind the driver. The one behind the driver is broken. There are two extra slider windows sitting on the back seat, that i will install as time permits. I will take pictures for you of the windows for you, both the ones mounted and the extra ones and post them tomorrow, since it is already dark here in California. |
Here are the picuree of the sliding window you asked for. I took pictures of both the window mounted in the sliding door, and of one of the extra windows that I am going to use to replace the broken window behind the driver.
Hope this helps out. By the way. my sliders were very hard to slide open until I cleaned out all the dirt that had fallen into the track. Imagine that! _________________ 77 Westy named Tiki - Daily Driver 80 miles a day!

Thank you so much!
Maybe I make a metal frame for window and use rubber seal outside. |

frist thing u need to do is right down a to do list

important things r new brakes, cables and every fuel line replaced.
then make a parts list and start shopping buy quality german parts
don't buy cheap junk
then by the best thing u can before u start the Bently manual then talk to people here on the samba.

Wow, I thought I was all alone in north west Arkansas. Love the bus. There is a salvage here in Arkansas that may be able to help you out, it's called Way Out Salvage. He has lots of bus stuff and a web site as well. Good Luck |

You will have to try the classifieds in your search for windows. But have you considered trying a different style of window? Consider this,
My other bus (a Westy) has louvered windows which I really like, especially when camping in the rain. I can leave the windows open for ventilation in the rain, and not have the rain come in. And the screens keep the insects out.
You open and close them using the black nob.
Just something to consider. Good Luck. _________________ 77 Westy named Tiki - Daily Driver 80 miles a day!

Re your engine: you have many holes in your cooling system, if it is hot as you say where you are, fixing the cooling system may save you a lot of money!
You may already know this; but having a complete cooling system and good rubber seals in the engine compartment and good fuel lines are the most important things you can do to keep your bus running...
I think of it in these terms; the only air that should be coming in the engine compartment is from the two air scoops on the side of the bus, and the only air leaving the engine compartment should be the air going through the cooling fan inlet and the air cleaner(to carburetor) :0)
Even if you do not have many parts around, you can seal many of the holes with other methods… _________________ Current VWs 71 T2 Westy SO-72/6(Miami), 71 Crew Cab, 2015 GSW TDI
