I wanted to get some weld nuts, but $2.00 each seemed a little steep. I looked on Fastenal's site and found these weld nuts that work for VW fender repair.
For my order, they were $6.82 for 10, or $0.69 each:

The picture on their site is not encouraging:
but the real parts look great. To my pleasant surprise, it turns out they are made in Germany. Nice:
If you like the square style weld nut, they have that too:

And they are only $0.16 each at Quantity 100.
None of these "projection weld nuts" are made for welding in with a MIG, they are intended to be welded to the bare sheet metal with a resistance welder. That is why they have the bumps. But using MIG on the wings of the nuts should work fine.
If you really want cool, these captive nuts look awesome:

but at $35.80 for 5 pieces ($7.70 each, OUCH) they are severely spendy. _________________ 1975 LaGrande Super Beetle Build Log / Farm boy hinge pin puller / Farm Boy Chassis Rotisserie
