Anyone use this ? http://www.fantasticvent.com/products/products.html

I was in my snap on dealer's truck today he's got one of this company's units. Seemed really nice.

My project westys' vent has been fiberglassed over by previous owner. It looks ugly and I'd like a vent in there again. Thought this company's unit was nice because it had an intergrated screen and was fan direction switchable. Also available with remote if you're really lazy.

I know Das Mule installed one of those in their rig. I thought I had seen a review they did on it. Can't seem to find it now though.

I saw a bunch of these installed on a BIG rv yesterday. They looked like vent stacks from an old steam ship!

According to the specs the model with the remote draws less power, maybe it has a brushless motor and the lesser models don't?

The remote models do have a thermostat so you can leave the vent open with the thermostat set to 80* and when the temp rises past 80* the fan switches on, the higher the temp rises the faster the fan goes, its pretty nice really, and your power draw is greatest when you have the largest harvest from your solar panels.

I quite like my remote controlled fantastic vent Cool

You saw the "maxxair" brand fan vent, not a fantastic vent.

I just purchased a fantastic vent 6600R for my hightop. I havn't installed it yet but everything seems very nice. I went for this version due to the low power consumption(.2-1.9 amps). The fan unit closes the lid when it senses rain also which is pretty cool.

I've got two in my motorhome, they work great! Five years heavy use with no problems. The Westy is next!

Very nice. Does the install require cutting? Also, anybody know cost of the option w/ remote?

Camping world sells them for 249 w/remote . http://m.campingworld.com/aHR0cDovL3d3dy5jYW1waW5n...MzMw%3D%3D

Looks like I have some measuring to do . Sounds pretty positive all the responses .

I paid $256.59 on ebay. Remote it included with the 6000R. It is for a 14" x 14" opening...not sure what size the westy skylight. The unit comes with a nice plastic trim piece to finish up the interior.

We have one on our Casita Trailer although ours does not have the remote as the trailer is so small it's not that difficult to reach up and turn it on. On our friends Airstream, they have one that closes automatically if it rains. Ours has a MaxAir cover over it so we can have it open in the rain. Those covers are what you see multiple of on big RV's, one over every vent whether it is a Fantastic Fan or just a regular crank open vent.

All that being said, I wouldn't put one in my Westy. The standard vent is just fine. I like to keep it simple. Our trailer is another story with tons of Solar and lots of amp hours. To each his own.

We had one on our Casita 16' trailer also. A real nice vent, but 2X on it being overkill for a Vanagon.

Too each their own though, please post pics if you mount one!

We installed one on our van and it was our life line in the Baja -- wouldn't go to a hot climate without it!

Here is the review we did:

That vent fan looks really interesting. I'm considering it (I live in Florida), but am leery of cutting a hole in my roof.
I got this one, for now:
http://www.fantasticvent.com/products/endless_breeze/endless_breeze.html
It's a bit more expensive than other 12v fans, but you get what you pay for. Low power draw (under 3 amps at max), quiet, and made in America. I set it up either on the galley with the window open, or it wedges in nicely with the top popped right between the latch and the screen. So far, it's been very nice to have, though I haven't really tested it in serious heat.

This http://www.fantasticvent.com/products/model_6000/model_6000.html is the vent that I recommend folks to put into their hightops. All reports that I have had back, including that of the late Ed Anderson who had one in his F150 AdventureWagen, are that the vent is, indeed, fantastic. I have seen them on line for under $200 so shop around.
When we redid the molds for the AW tops, we glassed over the AW skylight opening as the skylight was of a size NLA. Now folks can install a modern power vent.
The retrofit to replace the NLA AW skylight with a modern power vent is long, painstaking and laborious one. Replacement Westy skylights are available through The Skylight Guy. I can't remember the size of the Westy vent opening so i don't know just how well a 14 X 14" vent would fit.
I once had a link to a clear dome for one of these units, but, in the process of changing computers I've lost it - but - I'm pretty sure they''re available somewhere.

I installed one with remote in my hightop. It was by far the best upgrade I made to keep temps down at night. My hightop had a side window. With the fan set to draw air out, cool air would be drawn in through the window. It did a great job of moving air in and out of the van.

Curious if anyone has installed one of these in a tiptop?

I am eventually putting a pop top or high top on my syncro but would love to install this fan in the meantime.
