|
|
Ok, I need the "Correct" wiper arms for my early 68 bug (Built in late 67). Shafts are the original 68 round shafts. I did a forum / Gallery and even classified search.
Can someone help me out with what an original set af wiper arms look like? Are they the same, or is there a different left and right? Are they suppossed to be the same length? Is one angled down where the blade attaches and one is straight?
Pictures would be great? Part numbers would be helpful as well. I've seen plenty of "68 only" arms for sale here and elsewhere and pictures associated with these 68 only arms vary from vender to vendor. What should the correct set look like. I'm looking for original German ones, not repop as the whole 68 shaft set-up has enough issues without adding in bad aftermarket parts. I just want to get the proper two arms. Thanks in advance |

OK, here you go.
for some reason i have kept my old 68 arms even though i replaced them in the 90's and no longer even have the car!
I put them in the package the replacements came in. right side part no is111 955 408, left side is 111 955 407d.
left side is bent down more towards the windshield, but could of been done by anyone over the years. here's the picture:
left is on top in the pic and I really need to get a life! _________________ 1972 1302

Thanks!
Are these the original VW arms that came on the 68?
so they appear to be the same length? What is the length of the flat arm part measured fron the housing to the "U" where the bade goes. Other than the angle bend (which is more than likely an owner adjustment as you mentioned) What is different between the two arms? |

as far as I know they came with the car from Germany. No there is no difference in the length.
The replacements I got back then were made in Denmark and looked to be refurbished originals. _________________ 1972 1302

a tip I got back then was to file a flat place on the shaft where the screw tightens where the arm should be, helps hold its position. _________________ 1972 1302

do they look different from a top view? Is one of the U parts straight and one of the U parts angled? Just trying to determine the difference between the two part numbers. There must be a difference between the left and right one???? |

One arm on my car has a very slight bend the other has a more pronounced bend. The one with the big bend will line up with the bottom of the wind shield when off, the other will not. My problem is I can't remember which side each should go on. I have the 68 brochure and it shows both at the bottom.
My car is 68, I took delivery on 12/30/67. I am pretty sure I never replaced the arms.
If you can tell me how to send pictures from a Mac I will do that. |

Looking at ads, on one for a 68 the bent arm is on the passenger side so the driver's side wiper does not come all the way down. An ad for 72 super beetles shows the opposite with bent one on he driver side and the straighter one on the passenger side with it not resting flush with the bottom of the windshield.
Maybe it was up to who was working the line on any day. |
