Lucky, that ticking could have been something much worse than an exhaust leak! I'm still amazed you got that engine running!
Have you been able to actually drive it yet? _________________ 1976 Westy

Me too Bala... i guess i forget what it started as.
I drove it to the gas station a couple days ago(wife, kid and dog in tow). Filled it up all the way, gas gauge works! then drove around for about 15 minutes. Drives really good, got it up to 60 mph with no problems. Had alot of fun! _________________ Sam

Well i am still at a stand still with the exhaust stud(now two stripped… long story). But on a positive note i got the top done and it turned out pretty good… little bit of wrinkles. I tell you what putting all those screws in at the bottom is a… well its tough!
Also i got "new to me" headrests from a very helpful samba member. Thanks
Drozdenko!

Successful stud replacement. I wanted to use timeserts but the budget dictated. M8x1.25 helicoils tapped into the old M9 holes. Used straight M8 x1.25 studs( not stepped). So bolted everything back up and torqued properly, no leaks!
Successful test drives! Now time to drive her to the beach! _________________ Sam

Nice job on the F-pipe leak especially since you did it on the floor
A hard job to do. _________________ V.W.owner since 1967 |

Getting into the fun stuff now! First real test. Took it for a drive to the beach, 25 miles roundtrip. Did great, no issues at all! Very excited!
Just praying to the bus depot gods that my poptop seal arrives soon from back order. Oh and do to the salt enviroment here she got a fresh water wash after the beach.

Got a crappy rear bumper from the salvage yard. Hammered the crap out of it and got it to fit finally. Terrible pic but I was excited to get it on. A little added protection.

Bad ass brother. Bad ass
Now paint the front and rear bumpers white with a black stripe in the middle. Unless you want to keep that whole creepy janitor that sleeps out back in his bus look _________________

Thanks guys! Its coming along nicely, I've been driving it all week and no problems! Bumper will get paint in a few weeks... still want to hammer on them a little more. Here is the lastest photo... now with spare tire mounted.

So I haven't updated in a while.
Bad news is I had one of my helicoils I installed for the exhaust stud didn't hold... so I have to pull the manifold off and figure out what went wrong...
Good news I got my poptop seal on the back half
I replaced the backup light switch and now they work!
My mom and dad won this side step in the raffle at the texas classic and gave it to me so excited!
And lastly a couple shots of my dads 76 westy from the texas classic show. His bus is looking and running great!

That looks like some great fun with the bus and it sounds like you are enjoying it. I wondered what you thought about the BFG tires traction in the sand. And what pressure do you run for the street? I have them and I have been playing around with different tire pressures to find what I like best. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam.
