I am converting my 66 bug to 12v, and have wired it using the diagram below. Everything exept the rear lights worked for a while. After having it turned on and off a few times it now blows out fuse number 2 every time i try to turn on the lights. This thing is currently driving me crazy... Any ideas?

Rear lights are not part of this circuit at all, so that is unrelated.
The headlight relay wiring should be very simple. If you are blowing fuses then something is miswired or shorting out.
Maybe you can post a photo of your fusebox so we can see the rest of the wiring. |

Yep.. the dimmer and headlamp circuits are not part of the tail lamp circuits.
Fuse 2.. second from left... should be High beam left and High beam indicator ONLY.
That is.... if your fuse box load circuits are connected correctly.

Congrats on Norway's Olympic prowess, by the way.
If you have a Euro model, terminal 30 should have a thick wire running to it, NOT the thin jumper from terminal 56. With a dedicated 30 wire, you can use your headlamp passing flasher function. USA models lacked this, and used the 30-56 jumper.
Since that 30 wire will carry both high beam's current while you hold the button down, it should be as thick as the white/yellow/B&W striped wires. Connect it to a fused connection with power when the key is off. Not sure which one, maybe the one at the other end of the fusebox. |

If i remember correctly, which is never a guarantee, the red wire is a thick wire, the same as the yellow and white (although the yellow is black from the fusebox to the relay. Probably replaced in later times).
Anyway.. Thanks for the info so far I will take some pictures of the fusebox and of the wiring tomorrow. |

Check for proper grounding on your tail light assemblies. |
