Hi all, I've written a manual for restoring bays which has recently been published. It's been out a month longer in the U.K and seems to have been well received, the reviews on Amazon have been good, so hopefully it's helping people keep their vans on the road.
It focuses mainly on the bodywork/welding side of things which is the biggest concern over here with our climate and is presumably not so much of an issue for a lot of your vans, but also has a big section on mechanical overhaul including basic lowering, brakes and fuel lines and a strip down and rebuild section for stuff like the cab doors and dash including fitting new door and window seals.

Edit. Sorry, should have mentioned that it doesn't cover engine and gearbox rebuilds, as I'm sure you'll appreciate, an engine rebuild is a book in itself and the space was better spent on areas not covered in the workshop manuals and there are already some very good ones out there like the Tom Wilson book. It does cover changing gearbox seals(input shaft, driveshaft flange, nose cone) and also changing the plastic ball on the hockey stick for the gear shift overhaul.

Here's a link. Cheers. Fletch Smile

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! you make me laugh!
Where I'm from here in upstate New York air cooled VWs are an endangered species because of rust. They maintain our roads in the winter by pouring salt on them. Body work is the big issue here too.
Thanks for making another resource available to us all.

VWdog, you'll have to find it on ebay, or somewhere similiar(here classifieds). Or get it printed at Kinkos on card stock, make your own cutouts.

All we hear over here relating to bays is the sunny climate, rot free imports that are continually imported, so I forgot some of you guys get rain like us;)

Thanks for all the kind comments folks, much appreciated:)

The maritime NWUSA is so like GB coast that when the English sailors came here they thought they were still home. Rust is us.

Cool book. Bravo!

Fletcher, this manual is awesome. I have two buses that I don't know where to start with getting them going again. One of them it's going on nine year's and I've not gotten to enjoy it except to drive it from one repair job to another and then it sits there for years.

Your book is giving me new hope.

The people on this forum are great and extremely helpful but truthfully sometimes I feel kinda stupid not knowing what to ask.

Thank you

Thanks, I'm really pleased you like it. I had the same thing myself when I first restored a van, I sort of got lost in the middle of the restoration and the enthusiasm went and it took a long time to get it back. That's why I think if it's at all possible, it's a got idea to do the work in stages so you can keep using the van.
Good luck with your restos, if you get a chance to leave a review on amazon it would be much appreciated:)
Fletch.
