Why is it difficult to find a table that identifies a bus transaxle by the code stamped on it's side? Most information is vague, such as this table:
http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r301/David58Bug/Type2gearboxcodes.jpg
For example, if I had a transmission CK116####, could you identify the year and month of the bus it came from. From what I have seen the best you could do is probably indicate that it came from a 72/73 bus and would need to rely on differences in various features (bell housing, switches, etc...) to be able to somewhat pinpoint more accurately.
If anyone has a good table please post it.
Thanks. |

Unless you are doing a full 100 point restoration and insist on some sort of numbers matching scenario for your build why would you need to break it down to to month? There are three basic styles of type 2 IRS gear boxes.
1,Three rib (002 early) 5.357 to 1 ring and pinion ratio. 1600cc & 1700cc. up to 1973
2, Five rib (002 late) 4.86 to 1 ring and pinion ratio. 1800cc. 1974 1975.
3, six rib (091) 4.57 to 1 ring and pinion ratio. 1800cc & 2000cc. 1976 up to 1979.
This is just from memory so if I'm off a little on this, that is why. |

Thanks guys. The information provide re-confirms what I am saying. There does not appear to be a table that confirms specific month which I would like to see for my restoration.
Thanks. |
