I am attempting to set up an Ultima Edicion owners registry!
Please email me ([email protected]) or visit my website at:
http://home.att.net/~volkswagen-ultima-edicion/wsb/html/view.cgi-home.html-.html
with:
1. Your name
2. Your email address
2. Your city, state, and country
3. Your Ultima's VIN number
4. It's production number (out of the 3000)
5. It's color
I will try to set up a web site, or for the moment, set the information up on a spreadsheet which I will email to all participants as I find new owners.
Regards,

Patrick,
Two questions:
1. Have you been able to import one of those final edition beetles to the U.S.?
2. Your Yukon Yellow sedan. Is that an original color? I thought that was a convertible-only color. I have a '69 'vert in Yukon Yellow, and was just wondering. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS

My car is remaining at my home in Mexico. I have heard of people importing the cars to the United States. There is a company called "Beetlemex" in Nogales, Arizona which rebuilds an old floor pan (with a VIN number from an old beetle legally sold in the US) with The Ultima Edicion to give the car a legal VIN in the United States. I have heard from owners that this worked out well. I heard from one owner that the shift lever on the earlier pan did not align with the Ultima interior and he has a hole in the carpet from the original location.
I purchased the 1970 Sedan new and the color was "Yukon Yellow". Somewhere in my basement, I have the original owners manual, window sticker, brochures, copies of "Small World" that I saved from the car. If I can find a color chart or the window sticker, I'll try to take a digital photo of it.
Please let me know if there is anyone I can add to my Ultima Registry. As of now, I only have 4 participants.
Best Regards,

Patrick,
Good luck with the registry.
I don't have one of those final beetles, but I do have a '99 VW of Mexico beetle converted to a '70 floorpan. I am looking for service manuals for this model. Even if in Spanish. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

I don't have any shop manuals at this point. I may look for some when I get to Maxico in April.

How does your front window defroster work, not having the holes at the top of the hood for the fresh air control box that earlier Beetles had? I am converting to a Mexican Beetle hood, and can not find any information on the way the Mexican Beetle defroster works, and I need this info as I will no longer be able to use my fresh air box, since there will be no holes anymore. Please help; nobody else seems to be able to so far. |

There is no "Fresh Air" venting for the Mexican beetle windshield.
Only the old style corner vents for the defroster heated air.
The Mexican beetle is the direct decendant of the last of the European standard beetles. Some of the features:
No fresh air box or vents at front windshield
Rear swingaxle like '68 American beetle (IRS never offered in Europe)
Front Disk Brakes like European standards in late '70's (never offered in US)
Standard padded dash similar to '68 beetle, not molded dash like in US superbeetles.
No flow through ventilation vents behind rear quarter windows. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS

The information on the Mexican beetle is correct. My car is located in Sonora (which is basically desert) and haven't needed the defroster.

Patrick, I've been told that VW is extremely strict on the sale of manuals in Mexico. They will only sell one set to each dealership and never to the public. Since the dealers know this, they are very careful not to lose their manuals.
In the USA, federal law forces the automakers to supply complete repair information to the public. No such law exists in Mexico.
If you can get manuals, I'm interested. |

I've never looked for or asked about manuals---so I don't have an answer until I go down and investigate this. I'll be going down on 4/28 to 5/8/04 and see what I can get.

wat years were the 'last european' beetles?
i have a 76 it has a padded dash, gril in the bonnet for the 'fan box' which looks the same as a fresh air box cept it has a fan! as you said, swing axle. also has half moon vents at the rear. indicators in front bumper and elephant foot reat lights as on 1303.

Take in mind, only 3000 ultima edicion beetles were made, most sold in mexico and other latin countries, VERY FEW made it to the US or UK (This site's target audience) youll have better luck trying to open a mexibeetle registry, there are about 800,000 made this decade running around

|
|
I have question for Mex Beetle owners. I have seen a Mex car with the style of front and rear hood seals that mount directly onto the hood or engine lid rather than the c-channels on the body (as in the case of my '72 standard).
Here's my question: how does the hood seal attach to the hood nearest the cowl near the front windshield? Is there a separate part that attaches at the body in this area?
I've considered doing this to my car, as it looks like the seal seals out air and grime better than the original seal. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Hi,
I have an Aquarius Blue Ultima Edicion Beetle and live in the UK.
I bought it from the UK importer Apple2000 last year. I believe that there are several Ultima Edicions in the UK as both Beetles UK and Apple2000 both imported double digit numbers of them.
I am a member of the UK based Mexican and Brazilian Beetle Register (www.mexibug.co.uk) as are some of the other Ultima owners. If you get a global register/website up and running then I will be able to provide further records of my car.
Cheers,
Gavin. |

Hello Pat, Just checking in. Weather has been rainy so I've only driven my Blue Ultima Edicion a little bit so far this spring. I won't take it out if I know it will rain. Need to evac & recharge the A/C and looking forward to some Summer VW shows although few & far between in Chicago.

Yukon yellow was a convertible only color until 1970 when it became available on the sedan also. My '68 vert was originally yukon yellow but is now a brighter yellow. The Yukon yellow is almost a beige. _________________ '87 Porsche 911

My 1970 sedan was a light (as opposed to bright) yellow.
