Hello Guys, I am installing new molding on a Beetle today. The clips are very loose and don't hold the molding tight to the body. The result, the molding slides around on the body after install, easy. I am using new rubber boots as well.

I have slid the clips into the molding both orientations.

What am I missing.

Thank you!

Are you replacing ones that were previously fitting?

Or is this a new installation of trim that wasn’t there before?

If the latter, the trim hole size may have been altered. Take some twist drills and manually fit the stem of the drill into the holes to see what hole size you gave and then report back.

It would help if you advised what year model you have.

Thank you. Replacing existing molding. The looseness is not from the hole in the car body.

The clips that slide into the chrome molding are loose. Basically, so lose they slide out.

Ok. Understand.

On other websites there are two sets of clips. Pre 67 and post 67.

Did you get sent the wrong year range clips?

I seem to recall having this same issue. I think the issue was with the replacement moulding profile. If you still have your original moulding, compare the profiles. I purchased the Wolfsburg West stainless kit.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Here’s a pic. It’s like they didn’t get the right bend on it.
I think my solution was to either bend the clips ( I think I broke a clip trying that) or I may have gently made some bends on the moulding where the clips needed to stay.
