Hi folks - working on fuel system trouble shooting on a stock 1984 CIS cabriolet that dies when power is applied.

Cold start and idle are fine. Fixed some vacuum leaks but have a quick sanity check question as a CIS newbie.

I understand that the vacuum from the engine will lift the air sensor plate under the air intake boot, the plate rising in the cone then lifts the fuel metering pin/plunger in the fuel distributor.

As a quick sanity check last night with the engine running I manual lifted the air flow plate (having previously removed the cover and made sure everything was clean) and absolutely nothing changed regardless of how much I opened or closed the plate.

I would have though that the engine rpm would have quickly responded to the plate moving - that it didn’t makes me think that there is something very wrong in how the plate and fuel metering pin are connected or adjusted.

Yes/no/maybe?

Thanks for any advice or coaching.

Most likely the plunger in the fuel distributor block is stuck. It may need some cleaning to un-stick it.

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it.

I will take the fuel distributor off and see what is up, almost wonder if it is missing or the arm from the air plate is bent.
