What are your guys thoughts about ejection/ ejector cooling this was done by tatra back in the 1950s "ejection / ejector cooling tatra" by what my understanding is the engine uses the exhaust as pressure to cool the engine and by doing this would eliminate a cooling fan which would add extra hp but yet you would have open headers and loud exhaust maybe not street friendly..a tatra 607 used this cooling system and a tatra 603 ...it would be cool to do this to a vintage 36hp👇👇

It is an interesting idea. Tatra might have had a few things going for them that aided the ejector cooling. If I remember correctly, the Tatra engines that were set up for ejector cooling originally had fans that sucked air through the cooling system rather than blow it. I seem to recall that the 603 had air scoops on the body that funneled air into the engine compartment that probably helped with cooling when the car was in motion. My gut instinct is that the system is really only going to be effective for race use and most VWs won't have the benefit of effective air scoops. I'd love to be proven wrong, though. _________________ "I like how everyone likes talking about Zeke's Thing yet he's the only one that's ever seen it." - Katie

Here are some more photos that hopefully help explain how the system works (pictures are from outside thesamba so hopefully they still work). Yes, it is an air cooled V8
Note the large air scoops on the side of the car
Below are a couple of pictures of the normal fan driven extractor cooling
Engine compartment. cooling air enters the top of the engine around the carburetor/intake manifold. note that the extractor fans have a thermostatically controlled flap on the outlet that recirculates cooling air back into the engine compartment to warm the engine up faster. Once warmed up, the flap blocks off recirculation and dumps the hot air out the back of the car. The picture is in the recirculation position.

On a vw engine the exhaust outlet size would be about half of those tatra ones.. if this was done to a vw engine/ car ....this setup would be good for a drag or rally race bug ...but I know for sure if someone did do this I can't bet they would use it on a street vw .....I've seen guys use those dual stingers for street use so this ejector cooling I guess you can say wouldn't be bad if you like loud noise and if your state dont have exhaust regulations..... to bad I'm california can't do nothing or else fix a ticket but that's if that cop is cool if he or she ain't your getting a ticket ... |
