I am now the owner of an August of 58 DD panel bus. When I bough this bus, it had no bumpers, no deck lid and no apron. The rest of it is there and is mostly correct for the year. Only the tail lights and the head light switch are wrong (as far as I know). The rest is all screw terminal stuff.

So what I need to know is, this bus is registered as a 59 according to the state of AZ, should I have American style slash bumpers, or pressed? Brakelight decklid (without the light) or not? Crank apron or not?

Thanks.

My bus is also a august 58 build, 59 year model. According to Lind August was the last month for pressed bumpers. The deck lid would be the eyebrow type used to 63. My bus also had a mix of spade and screw terminals. I am unsure on the apron. Mine was missing. What is your VIN?

Should be crankstart apron. Of course if you dont run the correct 36hp exhaust, then youd have to run the non-crank apron with the cutout anyway.
Everything on your bus should be screw terminal. They didnt start changing to spades until mid 60.
Should have Later style eyebrow decklid. (no light)

Far as pressed bumpers, yes aug of 58 was last month. Wouldve been started being phased out as of then, so your bus could've been either way.

58 is a flat decklid just like the brakelight decklid without the hole. Since your bus is the cutoff year you could mix and match as you see fit. If you find a set of pressed bumpers, you could run them, otherwise it would be just as correct to run big bumpers.

Apron shoud be crankstart

Get us a pic of the bumper holes in the lower nose and that will help determine which type of bumpers it should have.

You guys are great! Then the "eyebrow" decklid that a friend gave me is correct, or correct enough. The bus is not wired for a 3rd brake lite and never was but I know you guys already know that.

I don't have pics yet but will get some soon but what I can tell you is the front bumper mount looks just like the one's on my "66's. Meaning it has two slits at the bottom of the nose and connects on the fram the same way.

In order to get this bus looking better, I need a crank start apron and a set of American style slash bumpers. I don't like pressed. I can live with the bladed headlight swtch and the tail lights for now. They all work and you don't fix what's not broken.

My VIN # is 378768 so I guess that makes my bus a late July model. Aug starts with 379.

Mine is 378649. According to Lind 3rd week in August.
The list shows the last VIN produced that month. 379407 was the last August bus.

Definately up in my opinion!

No its not your old 11 window, this one has signwriting from when it was used by Rodgers water co.

if you go to the home page of www.globug.net and scroll down you'll see both buses, the one of the seagull grey/mango green ice cream bus you sold me is a few months old, i'll send you some recent pics as soon as i get a new digi cam......it only been on the road a few weeks and looks awsome now its dropped etc! it was actually built in Sept 58 but still has pressed/ribbed bumpers...hint hint Wink each to his own Wink

Hopefuly i'll be out in the States in early Decmber, this time i'll definately try to get out to AZ to see you guys... Smile

Tim.

You're right, I looked at it wrong. I wouldn't doubt if the buses were made in the same day or at least with in a week of each other.

What model is your 59?

Yes 59. Aug 1st, 58 to July 31, 59 would be 59 year model. I am sure ours were built within a day or two of each other.

UPDATE: Mike, I have just learned that Nov 1 was infact the first 59 model with VIN 404491. Both yours and mine are 58 models. The july/ August year model change over didn't take effect until later according to the Neato spec book.
