I drive a 69' westfalia on Oregon "gravel" (sometimes boulders) mountain roads...reducing ground clearance would be counter productive. I never understood the logic behind lowering a camper...a city driver I understand, owner preference thing. I dunno, I kind of like the stock height, those engineers knew what was up.

guilty i'm afraid!

i had a lowered '73 panel van, in primer grey Rolling Eyes

It's just the whole thing about a car never being finished, i like to be constantly evolving my cars, so a proper paint job doesn't really make sense, as i will probably be tearing the thing apart again the next weekend!

I have "finished" cars, but only when i have wanted to sell them.

In the UK most car parks have a 6 foot height limit, and with our winding roads slammed vans can be much easier to live with Smile

As my van is a daily driver, i have to park in multi storey car parks, and use it for everything most people use their honda civic for Rolling Eyes that means making it fit our town planning!

having said that, i would quite like a synchro Very Happy

they have a whitewall insert called "portawalls" that you slip between the tire and rim so you can run decent tires and still keep the vintage look. As soon as we build that project sleeper oval window It'll have 7" tires with 3" wide whitewalls...

the back is turne on the splines, the front uses coil overs to replace the torsion bars. Adjustable height and damping.

I also threw away the anti roll bar, and the bus drives much better without it!

I'm running 175/65 tyres on the front and 185/65 on the rear.

BTW
an average bay bus weighs about 1100kg, with a westy being about 1300kg, so you don't have to worry about load ratings on tyres, unless you have a panel or pick up that you load right up!

i will try to get some pics up here soon........

Nomis, what kind of coilovers? Do they bolt right in or did you have to do any modification?

its a kit where the coilovers mount in place o the shocks, and the torsion bars are replaced with tie rods. The whole kit is fitted without removing the front axle, and the parts just swap in to replace stock parts.

have a look at www.red9design.co.uk
