Hi Gentlemen
I’m just getting my engine ready to go back in, and looking for help with the Transaxle ?
It’s definitely been clearanced for the 1600
Beetle is 116 427 031

Stamped
39
113 301 103
C
And just a Number
8722128
Can anyone help identify this trans please ? I have searched the charts and can’t seem to decipher what it is? Gearing etc

June 64 gearbox, 4.37 R&P .89 4th gear unless someone has messed with it

Much appreciated. My Birth certificate says built December 1965, so I'm guessing that's not the original gearbox, unless VW made this one well in advance and already had it in stock when my Beetle was made ? :D

No, that's actually a 1966 transaxle. The person above was looking at the engine number list.

The monthly log of transaxle serial numbers ended in JUN 1965. Only a few scattered entries in the book of Progressive Refinements give some other reference points after that. Both the chassis number given and the transaxle serial number would fall in the middle of the 1966 model year.

My apologies, was looking at list with my phone, missed the column shift. Still the same gear ratios I listed on the 66 gearbox
