Economy - perfect for me! Even used, I guess I got a good deal on it. :D

Thanks for posting that. A few guys I know recognized it but couldn't remember who made it or where they'd seen it, etc.

Cylinders 1 and 2 sure have a long way to go to get to the muffler.

One of my concerns - if this exhaust would have a negative effect for the motor (1914cc, dual 44's)? I've never seen the exhaust, so I know nothing about it.

there it is! can some exhaust expert chime in on the necessity of the tubes being the same length from the engine to the muffler section? or is it for these low hp applications it doesn't matter?

BlastMasterMannyFresh Mon Jul 05, 2010 7:28 pm

I took some measurements to start cutting metal for my new top secret project to be out some time in 2011.

Owned this bus since senior year in high school 2003, posted the first pic in 2003 in the gallery wondering if I should pull the dent or replace it, seven years of deciding and a HUGE amount of help from a good friend got me to this... :)

sorry for the blurrrr

Beat me to it! Saw it in JC's catalog just yesterday evening. (Either way, a great deal for me at $1!)

I'm thinking/hoping that the pipe length is not so much of an issue on smaller engines, and is more critical on higher performance applications, hence merged, equal-length headers. I always thought that was one of the selling points of exhausts like the Sidewinder - all the pipes are the same length for better performance. But, I'm nowhere near an expert.

Experts, chime in? :D

A buck! cool I'm stuck using an old empi pos made for a beetle. nice buy!

Drove the bus today. Insulated the metal fuel line in the engine compartment. Decided to check the accuracy of the dual oil pressure relief oil tem sending unit sensor. Wow is it accurate. With an autometer guage and vdo sender, the lazer pointer read 180 and the guage read 179. Cant get any closer than that. Also installed engine rear lid seal.

Zacharysayre Tue Jul 06, 2010 9:10 pm

started doing the front brakes.

Replaced rear window seal on BFKATCragar Kombi
Installed more Fat Mat sound deadening.
Drove it wearing Inkball Red flipflops.

Nothing's as cool as driving a flat black bus when it's in the nineties. :D

I can't say I did all this today, so lets say "over the last couple of days" I've done this. It all started with my single running bad, to make a long story short I checked all kinds of things to solve the problem to no avail until I pulled my carbs to blow out the jets and stuff and found a little chunk of what seemed like plastic. I think it might have come from the filter in the carb(Kadrons). It's like alittle piece that broke off the filters platic body. So I figured since I had the carbs off I'd pull the motor to take care of my chattering clutch. Pulled the motor and saw that both my axel boots were torn, my tranny shaft seal was leaking, the throw out bearing clips have been ground down by something and ready to break(they actually look cut), the fuel lines running behind my fanschroud to my carbs are all cracked & my alt stand was leaking. I pulled everything off the motor and cleaned the oil sludge off everything. I figured since I had the oil cooler off I'd flush it out since I'm sure it's never been done. After running fluid through it for 15 minutes and then blowing air through it for another 5 minutes this little red plastic ball thing came flying out! It's about the size of a BB and god only knows how it got in there. I'm hoping my motor will run cooler now LOL! I cleaned the motor itself up today and started reassembly, axel boots are done, main shaft seal is done and theres new seals in the oil cooler. I'll get all the other stuff on the motor with new seals tomarrow aswell as a new alt belt, but I'm waiting on a new clutch disc and clips for the T.O. bearing, so in the meantime I have to make up some new fuel lines, goin metal this time so I don't have to worry about them back behind the schroud.

I have to say I was alittle pissed when my single started runnin bad, but now I'm glad, it got me to see alot of things that needed to be fixed/replaced just before they failed and left me stranded some where and I finnally get to clean the entire engine compartment

thats how this all starts, something simple. Worth while in the end to do all the work and have peace with your machine knowing its doing whats it's supposed to.
