I suppose it could be a 65. That would make sense. I was just going on the fact that it had a church key gas door and non-chrome washer squirters.

Just got a 67 and come to find out it is a Riviera!

Anways, the guy I got it from put in the interior from a 68 Westy ( :roll: )
and of course the fit and finish isn't right. Luckily the bench behind the front seat was left alone)

Anyone have the measurements to make the spice rack or any other part of the interior? From the comments I've seen on this thread it would seem that it would be hard to find an intact interior.

Nope, a gal in the Wet Westies started it a couple of years ago as an off shoot to the vintage registry.

No, I had rivieraregistry.net as a domain name for a while, but gave it up. I really like this .com's site...has a forum and everything! Even room for the splitties! Could make for a good discussion area.

I saw this topic and while reading through the pages saw that pics of ours had been posted a few pages back.
This Riviera

and this one

are the same 1965 Riviera Camper Bus.
Rufus is indeed a Kombi-based (231) Riviera born October 28th, 1964 and came in through Portland (UP) with M-code options 425, 002, 013, and 025. It was purchased new at Mattson Motors in Astoria, Oregon on 4-22-65.

Are there any guesses or estimates as to the percentages of Rivieras that were produced from Kombis as opposed to Panel Busses?

I can only imagine that the percentage of Kombi-based Rivieras is incredibly small as *every* Riviera I've seen in person has been panel-based!

Same here. I dont recall seeing more than one kombi-based American camper conversion in person, and it was a friend's EZ.

So would a kombi conversions would have the 3 windows on the drivers side instead of the one long window? Just trying to sort all this out. Mine was a panel and has the long window.

Even a panel could have three aftermarket camping windows on the drivers side but a Kombi has three FACTORY window openings on the driver AND passenger sides.

The first giveaway to me is always the third window on the PASSENGER side. Even then, the third camping window may be hacked in, so i always look to see if the windows have the little rain guards. Seems like they didnt put these on Kombis equipped with Jalousie windows.

Heres a pic. of some crazy american camper that i bought a while back. Anyone else seen a third camping window on the passenger side of a panel conversion?

Unfortunately yes. It was added by a later owner. I found the original owner who gave some pic.s of it from back in 70s and early 80s. The ladder wasnt present then but at least i know what the cleats were used for now :)
