Checked out the cruise in my buddies 96 passat TDI so I could figure out how to make the cruise work in my TDI powered westy, between that a couple trips to radio shack and 3 hours with the bently I think it'll be working tomorrow with a couple more hours of work.
I also tried to get my EGT gauge hooked up and rewire the radio... 3 projects started none finished  :-/ |

I cleaned out most of the rust on my engine. (Still looks like crap.)
And cleaned out some of the interior. |

Well this morning was an experince I Pulled the fuel tank from the syncro. wow what a bitch. no big deal though I will not be reinstalling it because the VR6 requires this space. I will be custom fabing a new tank under the rear seat then incloseing that area seperating it from the interior of the van. |

1. Tightened the alternator belt. Now it doesn't squeal at start-up and smell like burnt rubber.
2. Currently boiling the skylight seal. |

Yesterday: Noticed a small coolant leak after stopping. Glad I saw it...
Today: Found leak source --coolant sensor gasket( 80 cents worth). No big deal, but no local part, so gonna have to wait before driving it again. Tried a couple of O-rings, but they didn't seal good enough.
Tomorrow: Work some more on the wiring harness for the Subaru replacement.
Day after tomorrow: More wiring harness.
Day after day after tomorrow: Pull engine to prepare for Subie install. Hmm... Have I driven the 1.9L for the last time?
Anyone need a good running 1.9L soon?
 |

Haven't done a thing to mine in a while. Gone all the time, working OT and changing homes. Not any time to play with my toys. Need to pull and re-grease CV's, replace rear main seal, clean starter, balance wheels, align wheels, shampoo interior, etc. |

...finished boiling the skylight seal, stretched it, tried fitting it back in the van, still too small so boiled it again, stretched it again, fitted it again, still too small so boiled it again, stretched it again ... and it fit great!
Also, I repaired the cardboard backing of and installed the sliding door panel that I thought was missing when I purchased the van, but turned out to be hidden in the pop-top mattress.
I LOVE this thread. I think it's actually motivating me to get things done a little more quickly. |

I've been too sick to do anything the last couple of days, but I'm sending the van to the shop today for the pre-winter-storage check up. Amazing how many people will volunteer to drive the van for a short trip...wonder if I should trust they'll actually deliver it *grin* |

Installed new cigarette lighter, replaced several burned out dash lights, put in new heater control lever knobs, and fiddled around with where to place the remote control for a weather center/info screen I bought recently.
A good day!
16" wheels coming soon! |

I have a TDI in my Van and cruise control is a function of the ECU, all I had to do was run wires and do a lot of head scratching, and set up a switch on the clutch and brake.
Here is alink to the how to thread, if it'll help anyone. |

took the fuchs off and put on 14" steel wheels w/ a sweet set of Michelin LTX M/S tires. some might say it was a downgrade, but I wasn't too wowed by the look of the fuchs on my vanagon.
On another note, anyone want to buy a set of original fuchs? send me a message if you're interested. |

Plugged it into AC in my driveway to keep the aux battery topped up via the Battery Tender. It'll be sitting a few days until my new catalytic converter shows up on the UPS truck.
I also have my new tires sitting in my garage, along with spacers and new lugs from Loogy, Waiting to go pick up my 15 inch wheels from the wheel shop, fresh from having the centerbore enlarged. Might be this weekend before I get around to that.
Right now the garage is full of that "new tire smell". :D |
