That'd be "Two-Lane Blacktop"
And I saw the previously mentioned "Fireball 500" on the big screen when it came out in the sixties. I liked the Frankie's car so much I went out a bought the model car kit. |

Denis Wilson the drummer for the Beach Boys played the mechanic that rode along with him. |

There was a "Made for TV" movie called Rebel of The Road which featured a lot of early 70's drag racing scenes. It was later released on VHS under the name of Hotrod. |

How about "The Wraith" from 1986? Not really a racing movie, but it had some pretty cool cars in it, including the Turbo Interceptor. Some crappy photos,,,,,,,,,,,

"Two-lane Blacktop" from 1971. Very interesting film about a road race to Washington DC between a '55 Chevy and a GTO.
I can't find this damn movie anywhere :x its the real deal too. The '55 used was a real high 10s gasser. |

And the car from American Graffiti that Falfa (sp) drove, as well. |

People in this country must drive very fast, or there is a soundtrack added. The cars that the driver passes are not moving much slower than he is. If he was truly going that fast, he would pass the others much faster. |

What amazes me is all those people standing on the side of the road when those guys fly through doing 100 mph and nobody gets killed. |

Well, it's a short movie, not a documentary. There has been a lot of debate over the years about how he shot it, what he was driving, etc. The sound is probably dubbed in, maybe from a different car. All the red lights he runs seem to be real, though, and the pedestrians that jump out of the way too. |

One person was killed. He was struck by another spectator on a motorcycle going the wrong way down the street. |

It's kinda cheezey but there was a quasi-documentary on Ed "Big Daddy" Roth that came out a year or so ago - "Tales of the Rat Fink." A lot of good vintage hot rod and salt-flat racing footage. |
