Do you remember the hotwheels or matchboxes that had really exagerated supercharged engines in them with the real bigs and littles?

That blown engine vwdragracer posted would look just like that sticking up out of my FG buggy.

EMPI ya think ?

I'd like to see the under side of the blower and see how they rigged the intakes to that beast.

all I have for information is it is a Blown Alky motor that went to the UK to be installed in a type 3 Ghia drag car. BRE of Top Fuel VW fame was/is the builder.

Yeah that is Roger Tanenbaum of BRE in Florida.
Match racing the Lauffer bunch of VW Paradise fame at the Silver Dollar showdown in Georgia 2006
Don't think the BRE dragster made even one pass without throwing debris on the track......

That explosion QT has pictured tossed a piston onto the tarmac....

Actually the BRE dragster DID make a few complete passes. As for blowing up, it's going to happen when you're running that much nitro & such an extreme tune. Before you rag on someone's accomplishments you may want to take a look at the big picture. While the damage was extensive, it's MORE surprising at what held together ~ that's IF you know what you're looking at.
That said, I'm sure if BRE builds & sells something to the public, I'm sure it's NOT going to be destined for the same destruction as the dragster engines while making a pass. Have some common sense.

Indeed!
I crew on a top fuel drag boat. You wanna play with the big boy's and run nitro, YOU WILL TEAR PARTS UP.
Kudos to them for EVEN running nitro in a VW based engine.

Before you rag on me ask the boys at VW Paradise.
They won't match race with him again.
Too much chance of tossing parts into their lane.
Plenty of nitro cars get down the track w/o blowing up.

If he had it figured out so well why did he park it?

This ain't my first rodeo either Ann.

Delaware huh? I live in Central Florida, near where the BRE Dragster is. I've seen that thing at VW events, local heads-up events, test-n-tunes, you name it, for the past 10 years. I've NEVER seen that car make a full pass under power in all of those years watching it.

I was in Reynolds for the match race last year. The BRE crew was scrambling between runs trying to rebuild the car. The Paradise guys would run the valves, change the oil, and sit and relax. They were running consistant passes all weekend, and not tearing up any equipment. The same can NOT be said for the BRE crew.

Thank you for confirming what everybody but Ann already knew.
While I applaude Roger for trying the nitro supercharged route sometimes it's better to kick back and just admit it ain't gonna work at those nitro loads. Gas or alcohol systems seem to hold together but the nitromethane engine is off on it's own tangent.
VW style engines will never hold that kind of cylinder pressure with the case, cylinders and heads held together by a stud/nut arrangement.

If you want to be enlightend a bit Ann, listen to Ray Iddings Volkscast Radio interview with Mr. Tanenbaum.

By the way, I do know what I am looking at and I am suprised it did hold up so well.....

Yes, the setup is a DLI , the same as the others, only I recieved mine in late 2005 after Mr Landy had issues with B/M - Holley, and went with a screw drive Magnacharger on my setup. Also I had my holley 650 carb rejetted and converted to alcohol for e85. As for the intake, I built it from 3" exhaust and sheet metal.

Nick,
I was wondering about using E85 for the cooling effect so more boost could be run, however at DLI they seem in the dark about it.

Details please.

I don't have exact details on cooling for you because I'm in the middle of a new 2332 build and just converted to e85 for this year. However, I had my holley carb converted by a gentalman named Chris at classic motorsports(see link below) and he "guessed" head temps around 100deg cooler, at least thats what he see's in the v8 croud. If your looking for e85 answers, I've recomended him to people on another forum and they were very pleased with his knowledge. Check his site and give him a call I'm sure he can help. As for my setup, I should have it finished in the next month or so and have a dino lined up and will have more "real" data for you.

not a blower motor but I will be running 20% nitro in my N/A motor this coming week end. Best pass to date on 100% methanol has been an 11.32 @ 119. I'm hoping to tune the car to a 10.?? using 20%
