there used to be a place out of europe (i believe???) that sold a split window beetle body for use on an rc car. are there any other folks that sell either a beetle or a bus body that looks decent that could be put on a gas powered rc???
i've been wanting to build one sooooo bad. |

looks like Tamiya reissued it - I imagine an original goes for way more - didn't it used to have an aluminum ladder frame back in the eighties? |

not sure about the ladder frame. but yeah, tamiya reissued all the classics, hornet, grasshopper, frog etc.
look on ebay for what the original hi-lux and f-350's are going for. it's crazy. i saw a hilux in the original box go for $1800 or something near to that. |

F350 High Lift
Man, if you didn't tell me that was an RC, I would've thought it was the real thing. :D
Nice work.
Not knowing anything about the hobby, I'm curious - about how much should I expect to pay for an example like that if I wanted to get into the hobby?
The truck is $380. The proper radio to run it is about $120. A speed controller is another $60 or so, a decent charger is about $60 and finally, battery packs can be had for about $25 each, get three. And you have to paint it. And build it.
For the ultimate realism, there's a sound and light unit specially for it that retails for another $300, by itself.

The High Lift's are new originals, not re-issues, and are about $380 at Tower. There's the F350 that I have, and just released in the last month or so is the Hilux. Both have the same chassis. Neither chassis has any resemblence to the original 3-speeds.

What a POS.
Seriously...I've got an FX-10 in my garage. Years ago (when I was in middle school) I decided to convert it into a truck...the buggy body is long gone. It was my first RC car, and I bought it with my savings...IIRC, it cost less than $150 (maybe even less than $100) for the car and radio. Should've bought an RC10 instead.
I eventually got a Schumacher ProCat (4wd buggy). Thrashed that around for a few years before sports consumed my life through high school. Both have sat unused in my garage for years (the FX-10 for at least a good decade). |

Keep that blackfoot, I got one in a trade with the thorp tranny, and I flipped it for $220(the car I traded for it, a Losi lxt, i paid about $50 for). Hang on to your old stuff, its only becoming more valuable. |
